There is a story that, back in the late 50's, Elvis Presley was driving his Cadillac thru NYS and stopped & ate at a diner in North Utica somewhere. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

This is the story I remember hearing.
Just before the Thruway bridge on N Genesee St. where the motel is now, used to stand a restaurant. I think it was called "The Diplomat". Elvis got off the Thruway and stopped in there for a meal.

I think maybe one of the older posters like the lady called "nana" might recall the details.

He actually stopped at The Yorkville Diner, and then he came over to Voss's for an Ice cream cone.

The teen-agers' idol whizzed through the Mohawk Valley during the early hours after a 15-minute stopover at a Utica diner. He was en route from Ottawa to Philadelphia, accompanied by three bodyguards.

His stop at the North Genesee Club Diner, about 1,000 feet from the Utica exit of the Thruway, caused quite a sensation -- even though it occurred shortly before 4:30 Thursday morning.

About 70 persons converged on the diner as Elvis sat eating an order of bacon and eggs, French fries and coffee. Diner employees said the "wiggle" was "very polite" and "very quiet."

The booth he sat in has become like a shrine to teen-agers of Utica. More than 100 of them had visited the spot by nightfall Thursday. The co-owner says that since Presley visited the diner it's been packed.

The waitress received one of three autographs he signed -- and a $2 tip.(Quoted from Yahoo)

I'm the waitress that got the $2 tip. He was wonderful. He went in the mens room and took a shit but forgot to flush it, so I fished it out, put it in a bottle and still have it on my fireplace mantle. Memories!!

It was the North Genesee Club Diner, which was located behind Arnie Duel's Gulf Station, which was where Clifford Car Wash is now. And it was in the wee hours of the morning. I was in 7th grade at Seymour School, where the closed Rite Aid Drug Store is now. There was no large turnout at the time as claimed, due to the late hour. The evening " O D " ran a story about it with a picture of a Utica Patrolman's (car 88) picture holding up a traffic ticket that Elvis autographed.

Elvis is actually from Utica, all of his song were written in Utica, and he named Graceland after Utica, he used to bring Precilla to Utica all the time and bang her here... He is quoted as saying Utica is the center of the universe, and that Riggies, Tomatoe Pie,Greens, Nuclear bombs, basically everything ever invented was done in Utica... True story...

Elvis still lives and works in the Utica area. I saw him myself. He bags
groceries at Aldi's in Yorkville.
He prefers to have people think he is dead, rather than to think he lives in the Utica area.

He was alright, but we KNOW who the REAL King was... he can't sing, but he could put a smackdown on Elvis & his Black Belt BS.
