I usually go to Big Apple on Seneca turnpike. They solder their connections and their price is right in line with their competitors.

Just so you know, if you have a new car and have someone besides the car mfg install it,it can void you warranty against any electrical problems.

Some people have saved hundreds, but lost thousands
when the mfg denied their warranty because of an aftermarket product installed.

This is true about the warranty, but if you're looking for the best price by someone who knows what they are doing, go to Mobile Mike on Oriskany Blvd. near Holland Farms. He used to install for Big Apple and he does all the installation himself, so he doesn't have much overhead.
not the case

NOT TRUE, unless the dealer can prove what the car starter installer did actually caused the problem there. I use to think that was the case as well. but last year I called and asked several new car dealer service managers about where to get a car starter put in so I wouldnt have a warranty problem and they said of the "main" car stater shops would be ok and actually mentioned Big Apple, Auto Specialist, Rockfords, Custom Sound and others. So where ever you get your new car from 1st ask the salesperson who they recommend, they call their service manger and ask their opinion

I heard Auto Specialist is going to close after this winter.... I would assume your Lifetime warranty goes out too.

First of all, it is entirely untrue about the Warranty part. If the remote starter does cause the failure then it may cause "a part" to be out of warranty not the whole car, read the Magnuson-Moss Act. In upstate NY there are 30,000 remote starts sold annually. As for the stores I offer the following.

Custom Sound and Wireless: They use the most expensive and hightech starters and parts for their starters. All of there Idatalink Bypass Modules and Compustar Remote Starts are OEM ELECTRONICS TESTED AND APPROVED. The bypass module which does antitheft bypass and canbus integration has resistors along with other protection for vehicle computers. Pay the extra and dont give up a key and they will put in a high quality starter.

Big Apple: These guys have alot of experience and aren't going anywhere so your warranty is safe. They do use top quality Idatalink Bypass modules on many vehicles, however they use a discount brand of starters now (Ultra, Code).

Mobile Mike: Mike has been at the game for a long time, he has used a bargain basement starter up till this year(Accelle) but rumor has it he has switched. He knows what he is doing, but is not there all year long to offer up the support.

Rockford AutoGlass: I would avoid these guys, there head tech is good, and his installs are also good, but the units he uses are outdated or just Distributor deals.

Auto Specialist: Do your Research, he went to China had some JUNK remote starters made with his sticker on them and pawns them off as his design. He has had business problems in the past and you cannot get this stuff fixed anywhere else: AVOID

DJR Custom Electronics(Oneida): This guy uses the same great product Custom Sound and Wireless does, and is EXTREMELY good at installs. He seems to know all the new technology as it comes out. I would recommend the drive out if you can fit your car into his packed schedule.

Brands to Avoid: Accelle, Auto Specialist house brand, Scyteck, OMEGA, Excalibur, AutoCommand, Bulldog.

The good news is that he will be reopening under another name like he has done ten times before.( It's way easier than paying bills and honoring warranties)

Just a note on Big Apple: Make sure you do your homework BEFORE you buy. I had a starter done there and ended up having to add features I thought I had paid for and actually finished the install myself. They do solder the connections, but do a barebones install.

Go to custom sound if you want a product they will not stand behind. Have the same part fail twice within 13 months, see what they do for you. Offer to purchase another "new" part and ask for a warrantee on it. Some parts have a lifetime warrantee, but not all parts. Good luck.

I would like to ad my two cents... All of the stores above have good and bad things for people to say about them, You can not make everyone happy. I have worked at one of the stores listed above and now work at another store . I will not say which one is better then they other but I will say compustar is a very nice unit, they have a nice secruity inteface I have worked with them. But this interface is also sold in a stand alone ver so It can be used with other starts. So now it comes down to expericance .. By far with the team of installers that are at all the stores Big apple has the most expericance they use a very good product in astro start ... the new ultra starts are bullet proof, metal remotes great range for a great price. Any installer can make a mistake installing its the ones who fix right away are the ones I would say are the best.
