I thik a better split would be taxpayer and non taxpayer. Let the people that do not contibute to the State have their own state.

I think that the law makers need to lay it all out. The cost to do it and then what the budgets would look like. For our state now and seperated, where we would make gains and where we would lose them. Also what would they be called. Upstate NY, Downstate NY? District of NY?

get the $$s to pay for this new Upstate NY?

Upstate doesn't have the resources to support this type of proposal. Have you looked around lately? I only see Seniors, disabled, welfare recipents and others on the dole. No jobs to speak of, industries gone and a decaying city. Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo are no better.

And, you're bitching about the taxes you pay now? Get Real! Don't waste any money or time on this baloney.

Upstate has been held back by downstate for eons. Its current state is like telling a battered wife she can't do any better because she was abused for so many years and simply lacks the strength to go on her own. It's a negative feedback loop. The only way upstate will ever get any representation is by getting on its own two feet.
It has naturally been a more conservative area of the nation, and I believe the taxes will be more to the liking of its citizens. The capital is there--good universities, educated workforce, etc--let's do it!

Without downstate, upstate would basically turn into West Virginia.

Is to dependent on upstate for water and power, I wish they would separate.

This needs to happen ASAP. Down state can keep Cuomo and the liberals.

And upstate is dependent for money. Without the tax base of the five boroughs and Westchester, upstate would dry up and blow away. Upstate counties receive more funding than they contribute.

Anyone in the utica area that would support being separated from downstate is a true tool.

Republicans have convinced the poor to vote against their own best interest for generations. This is no surprise.

If upstate was such a burden then downstate would be screaming to get rid of us. While it is true that downtate pays more in taxes but in truth, how much do they really benefit us? Downstate politics hinders a lot of progress up here.

We should see if it is truly feasible to separate downstate instead of offering opinions based on little to no facts. I believe we can make up any tax shortages by selling downstate goods like water, gas and electricity. Once the super liberals are gone, upstate can vote in more business friendly laws that will prevent companies form leaving and may even create a desirable environment for manufacturing again.

Downstate doesn't complain about upstate because its not relevant to them. Plus there's a need for a place to park their inmates.
