New interoperable radio system will cost taxpayers millions. Let them use cell phones. Or those Radio Shack hunter's walkie-talkies. They're probably in stock.

The company costing NYS taxes to up is JPJ COMMUNICATION, Joe know what and how the system should work, but every year puffs up state contracts so he puts millions in his pocket.

Joe wants and needs all these fragmented systems to continue..... He's making bank off of all of it.

Joe is a very rich and smart guy, evidentally.

The cost will be staggering. My solution is call boxes throughout the county. They get exercise pulling over to use them, so this really makes sense.

Oh yeah, and the genius of this is wireless and solar powered. Would need the vandal proof models for downtown Utica.

Maybe the guy putting up the stupid sign and chip in.

Your welcome.

Every agency in the county is linked except Rome. Rome got talked into going on a digital system (probably by JPJ) that cannot talk to anyone else but Rome. Kinda dumb seeing as how no other agencies in the county want or need to change to this digital system, nor will they be anytime soon. Oh well, Rome is an isolated little island unto itself anyway, who cares.

Everybody else has the capability to talk to each other thanks to the efforts of JPJ. It works just fine.

It comes out a wash.

I don't think JPJ's efforts make interoperability possible. They just implemented what the manufacturer provided. They're a mediocre radio shop on their best day.

Time for a new provider. And a less expensive, better option for public safety communications.

You would think events like 9/11, Sandy, Katrina, etc. would highlight the importance of common systems. But no. A simple search of Radio Reference shows that police, fire and ambulances in this county all use various incompatible systems. What a joke.

Lots of free freq space in this region. Never need to go digital or truncked! Plain old FM still works jus fine. State pigs use fm.

Other counties have interoperable systems that allow all law enforcement agencies to communicate with each other, and the State Police. Their radio vendors properly determine how to design and implement the system.

Get a competent vendor that understands what they are doing, and save a bunch of taxpayer money.

Evaluate the current vendor's expertise against competitive vendors. Talk to other 'experts' to get ideas. Maybe it's time for a change.

Exactly. Sounds like cronyism.

Someone has to speak up and voice outrage at this inexcusable, ridiculous and dangerous situation... that could endanger the lives of law enforcement users. Incredible malfeasance.

Actually this is another lie by the bedwetter Kevin Revere. Hi am Piss-ente are trying to get that 30 cent--month cell phone charge, the third 911 phone tax on our bill. We need to vote out of office any legislator who supports this. The police have a frequency known as "inter-agency" that they can all talk together.......so onc again Revere is lying.

The "law enforcement entitlement class" and Cult of Public Safety will have to make do. Fact is 911 isn't going to hit utica. You can't attract a restaurant there yet you idiots seriously think your fat twinkies are "in danger" because you "have to use plain old FM"?

Terrific. More worthless toys for worthless boys.

JPJ Communication should be evaluated against other more competent and experienced vendors.

It is funny how the public servant retards claim the need the latest greatest radios and millions to support a monopolistic vendor so they can embrace technology but meanwhile these very same narrow minded people insist on the ridiculous loud fire horns all over so the whole town's walls are vibrating 3x a day and every time someone calls the cops on Diana Vickery for waving her rifle out the windows again.

What exactly is so wrong with the newfangled radio technology that one of the layers and layers of police that they can't just pick up a phone and call whichever other layer of public servants is in the next county. How many different agencies need instant access to another 30 layers of public servants over? Why don't all the stupid moffkoz "deploying" all the different crap radio equipment and industry standard config vs. "Oootica Monkeys on a Kan" wherein JPJ actually arbitrarily changes up the trunking a few times a year and then charges everyone from the cops to the towtruck farts a fee to give them the order. Biggest racket in ootica. Suddenly they wake up and smell the 1957! Lucky for the SA2500 and Yeasu receiver or I never would have paid for that just to hear who they're bootin and shootin tonight lol!

JPJ is a racket, no question about it. Why law enforcement and other public safety organizations tolerate JPJ is beyond me.

Someone that makes decisions about communications for Utica has to say "enough" and push back. Invite other vendors in to make proposals, and explain system alternatives.

Utica needs a new, professional and legitimate radio vendor that doesn't hose the taxpayers. Using a vendor that sticks it to the taxpayers year after year is nuts.

It was sarcasm... getting rich at the cost of endangering their public safety customers... who depend on exchanging information that may save their life as they roll up to an incident.

You would think that the various departments would demand better.

Joe is not smart, His dad was smart, not sure if dad is still alive, he was the smart one and a business man, Joe is a con man, I give what he was doing, He would send his men out to do contract work, Climb towers, work on radio With contract,(Set labor rate as per contract aka prevailing wage, he did this for many years, he paid them lets say $11.00 per HR, contract was $18.00 he would keep the differance and pocket it,

Anybody who knows anything about radio knows digital radio communication is a horrible idea.Analogue is far more reliable and has much better carry. It is true that you can send more data over useing it and in theory can use less power to send it.In practice it does not work that way it is far to prone to lossed communication due to weather, terrain, and anomalies. If you want an easy example look at the cliff effect of digital hd radio and digital t.v..If the signal is weak or even if it is strong but with interferenca it just drops out completly instead of just ghosting or delaying because digital can't process the unclean signal where as analogue just lets it all through given a less clear message but digital gives you nothing at all.
