I do work there and we had meetings today that our department isn't going anywhere. Its only the direct side. So get your facts right before you yell at other people.

Unions were the answer you fool, they would a hard time firing you. People with less seniority would of been forced out first. How the hell do you think the 3% raises happened with threats of discontent. It was ACS's all over the country ready to take part in it. We had the support of international ACS's in Germany, Mexico and India All were willing to do their part to throw the company under the bus, 5 locations stateside were considering the same. It took months of planning to get to that point.... why the hell do you think ACS was scared sh!tless and started having meetings all over.. Xerox was starting to piss themselves. We even had the backing of the occupy movement in Syracuse and Utica. It looks like your losing now.. in retrospect you had nothing to lose...
Unions have no place in a global economy except 6 feet under. Served a purpose years ago....but a hindrance today. If there was union activity at this site, no doubt that is contributing to ACS decision to close it....just as easy to do this from India. Wake up.

Yeah but its not like the entire thing is shutting its doors. Its one department not the whole building.

Yes but it is a very large part of the building do you think security will be there. No. How about the cafeteria. No. I understand that you will still be there but for almost half the staff being laid off it is still dramatic

The truth is they NEVER took your efforts as a big threat as you think. I have sources way high up in the company who I can tell you was quoted as saying if these people follow this guy I really feel sorry for them. You can say and think whatever you want but I can tell you they knew you had no chance in hell. You talk about all the support you had and blah blah blah but the fact is you failed miserably. It shouldn't be harder to fire people and people shouldn't be protected just because of seniority. Its called job performance and accountability for your job performance. If you don't measure up then you should be gone. Not protected because you are in a union. Why don't you start a corporation unionize it and see how your business goes. As far as the 3% increases they had that scheduled for 2012 but put it off til the 3rd qtr and xerox itself became more active in the operation and made sure that happened. You give yourself way more credit then you deserve. Xerox was far from sh$tting themselves. And you mention that other joke of a group Occupy. Biggest joke there is. Lazy people who want everything for free and don't want to work hard. Please they are a complete joke.

I cant speak for all departments, but the one I worked in an quality went out the door when piece rate started. You cant force people to work at ridiculous speeds and not make mistakes and base their pay on that. They used to expect quality but then went for quantity. Partner that with supervisors that have their little "pets " that they give the best paying functions to and you have unhappy employees. You have to treat everyone the same. People lost their pride in their work. Customer service went out the window! Borrowers started getting the short end of the stick. Mistakes ran rampant. It was a disaster in the making! If the Dept of Ed knew what was going on this would have happened a lot sooner!

I worked there when they first switched to piece rate and for two years after. I was making $16-$20 an hour until after about a year they started throwing new tasks at me left and right because i was just so "great", but in reality it was to drive down my hourly because it would take some time to learn. The point of piece rate was to screw everyone into making less then what they were hired for. I learned my lesson and skipped out and never regretted it knowing what that place woulds eventually come to this. Sorry to all those that will be losing their jobs in this crappy economy

You are correct! Everytime you got your rate up they would cut the rates to bring your pay back down! It was said at one meeting "if this way to pay is not for you, you should look elsewhere!" Nice when you had been there for years and the job market sucks in the area! It used to be a good place to work but fell fast! I look back and it's like remembering a bad dream!

There is so much on here that is wrong. Yes, Direct Loans a division of ACS/Xerox is closing. Not only are layoffs in Utica, but we have facilities in California, Texas and Maryland that are being affected. For Utica alone it is about 400-425 people. Been there 20 years and it is a great place to work! Some people suck but isn't that everywhere! No one got pink slips in their checks and we don't know who is going first. All depends on work ethics. I will b glad to see some people go though because they are assholes. And to the union guy....we lost a contract, NO UNION could have stopped that....ur just being an idiot because you got fired for not doing your job. U snooze u lose.....there are so many people who have been there for many many years because they are good, hard workers!!

Everyone should just stop talking shit cause u have no idea what ur saying.
