If you own a gun legally, and hold the right license and permits, is it legal to carry it walking down Genesee St.?

Different kinds of permits...It has to say you can carry concelled on it. That means you can carry it but not like a cowboy...it has to be hidden from view. ie. concelled.

Just thought if it was legal, that a march on the State Office building would be deserved by the Governor.

What TYPE of gun are you considering walking down Genesee Street with? Handgun, shotgun, rifle, musket, muzzleloader-what?

There are two types of handgun permits. Concealed and home. You cannot walk with it in your hand, but in your holster or pocket. In Vermont you can walk down the street with any gun you want.

New York does not have a separate Conceled carry permit. If you gave a permit w/o restrictions you can carry concealed. I do it every day!!

Yes, you may walk down the street with a long gun in plain veiw, so long as it is not loaded, and you are not menacing anybody. However there is so much histeryia right now that would only hurt the cause, like it did in Califonia. A march on the state capital is planned for Jan. 19 2013 at 12:00pm. Please attend and spread the word.

Who is organizing this march and where did you learn about it? I've heard nothing of this in the papers, online or the TV news.

Can't see why not, as long as it's not concealed.

NYS is a carry concealed state. Period. The state application even says "application to carry concealed" You can only carry concealed unless you are doing one of the NAMED RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES PRINTED ON THE LICENSE CARD. Target. Hunting. Camping. Hiking. are typically the most common restrictions.

The only way you get to carry "open" like a cop is if you have been GRANTED BY THE JUDGE, an "unrestricted permit" for which you must convince the judge you need it.

Otherwise, if you are carrying open and not specially licensed to do so, you can be arrested for "BRANDISHING IN PUBLIC"

Listen to this a-hole and you'll surely get busted and lose your license.

Keep in mind gun owners (the ones that purchase them legally) are some of the most law-abiding citizens in public. There are about 30,000 pistol permit holders in Oneida Cty. and maybe 1 or 2 may lose their permit in any given year...usually for some misdemeanor arrest or some other incident. And I'd say about 10,000 permit holders are women.
Gun owners need more women on their side.

In Vermont, you do NOT have to have a permit to own a pistol.

You are partially correct. I have my unrestricted license, but it is still illegal to openly carry in public. The only places open carry is allowed is on a gun range, or in the woods when you are hunting. Besides, unless everyone is carryinga pistol in the open, you are inviting alot of unwanted attention to yourself.
