Go to one of the Southern States - North Carolina is very nice - has mountains and the four Seasons. Any blacks down there know their place, are polite and not at all like the getto blacks in Utica.

Usually most Southerns are very friendly and trustworthy, and when they give their word - they mean it.

North Carolina is also a heck of lot cheaper to live there - they don't have the high NYS taxes you've been paying. Good Luck - you will love it there.

Lived here all my life. Time to move. Sad thing is when good honest home owners leave and more people on welfare come to this city, who is going to pay the taxes in the future. Not a good idea to keep this policy going with free money.

65,000 have left since the early 80's and without all the recent immigrants from everywhere, Utica population would be around 30,000. Now that is progress at its best. New Hartford since the 80's has grown from around 10,000 to about 26,000 now. What is broken here folks?

You are absolutely right.

I recently sold the house I inherited with no mortgage attached to it - all because of the high taxes while I'm retired and living on a fixed income. I will still keep my own home as the taxes are paid by my Escrow account and it is not so painful.

I would have left Utica 5 years ago but at my age, it is difficult to start all over in a new state just by yourself with no friends or relatives close by. All my ties and loved ones are still in Utica and hoping NANO will bring a higher class of homeowners to help pay all these high taxes that are politicians are dumping on us without any consideration that most of us paying these taxes are Senior Citizens living on fixed incomes.

Utica has turned into nothing but a Refugee Center and criminals that behave and act like nothing more than wild animals which accounts for 90% of the crime that goes on in Utica and is constantly putting law enforcement people at high risk for their lives. It is an endless cycle - more refugess and criminals - the more personnel needed by UPD.

The only hope for Utica is that NANO will bring higher educated people who will be looking for homes to buy near where they will be working. LET'S HOPE IT WILL BE IN UTICA...

That is easy to answer - CORRUPT POLITICIANS!!!!!!!

I've lived here all my life and the only Mayor that we had that really loved Utica and did everything he could to better it was Ed Hanna (RIP).

When was the last time we had a Mayor that understood how to put together a balanced budget and had a financial background and was educated with a Master's Degree? NEVER!!!!

For example, look at how well Congressman Hanna is doing in Washington, DC representing our area. He is a self made businessman and understands how business is run and can relate to the working man. A hell of a better man that Bolert ever was.

The only politicians we've ever had running Utica have mostly been corrupt and only have their own interests in how to line their own pockets with money that they can get from the "budget THEY put together!!!!!

Welcome to a Mini Detroit - Utica, NY.

I beleive that New Hartford's population is around 21,000 which is close to what it was in 1970. The only reason NHs population is stable is due to all of the honest middle class flight out of Utica.

Employees of Utica Nano will not be locating to the cities of Rome or Utica. They locate to where the best school districts are. Its fact.

That is what happened at the Global Foundries project in Malta. They had to hire a specialist just to answer questions of prospective employees about school districts.

Also, only 50% of their hires are locals. The rest are shipped in and the majority are living in apartment complexes.

I truly hope Nano happens here, but .......

I moved to NC. Glad I was ble to leave. Great health care, good universities, culture, the ocean, the mountains, very little snow. Bought a bigger house than I had in the Utica area with 1/2 the property tax. Jobs are found in certain fields easily. Do not regret leaving. Go before it's too late. Do it for your family.

I grew up in a Utica suburb in the 60s and left NY in the mid 70s. I sadly can't get over the decay that has set into the Utica area in the last decades. After living in North Carolina for 30 years, I find upstate NY pretty depressing and run down when I visit family.

My kids had a great education here in NC, including the university system. Health care is excellent with UNC and Duke hospitals. The neighborhoods around Raleigh are beautiful and Raleigh itself is a vibrant city. We can make a day trip to the beach and enjoy nice weather all year, with really beautiful springs and falls. Enjoy year-round golf in our retirement.

If you plan to leave NY, get a job first! Gone are the days when you can arrive here and pick up a job in a week or two. Also, housing is not inexpensive although the property taxes are less.

not much left here to suck,if youre young and ambitious you will make it anywhere.you would be better off in a lower tax state like nc. get out while youre young its more difficult to leave as you get older.

Right on the money! Especially about the jobs and the cost of homes. I wonder if we know each other.

New furnace installed by 'reputable' local company = absolute worst workmanship I have ever witnessed. Alarm system installed by another local firm = improperly wired and half of the components did not work. Gas fireplace installed by well known local business = thermostatic control that has never worked despite three call backs and a gas leak!! Mistake made by local utility company = blame the customer and be as absolutely nasty about it as one can possibly be. I have given the area all I have. And, I have lived elsewhere, the South, overseas, etc. I challenge local businesses, city workers and politicians to keep me here. I AM retired and am staying long enough to help with the grand kids. Obviously, you politicians, city workers and local businesses do not care.
