Has anyone out there used Tax Master on Bleecker Street in Utica for their tax returns. Its on KTV that a new law will put him out of business. He is "old school," does everything by US Mail. He prepares many many returns for the small Arab-owned convenience stores. I would like to know if anyone has had a good experience with this tax man.

He is not associated with Tax Masters which is a national firm. He is Tax Master a one man operation.

Please give some feedback on this one!! Thanx

Mike has been preparing my tax returns for the last 25 years. He's highly productive and fights for every dime. He is the best.

If your 13 year old decides to download music for free using Limewire, Kazaa or any other Peer-to-Peer network, you are at HIGH risk of compromised security. When setting up these programs, they ask if you want to share just music, or all of the files on your computer. Last year alone, if you went on Limewire and searched "NYS tax return" you could access over 10,000 tax returns from people who used software to prepare their own taxes, yet their kids had no idea of the compromise they created.

Mike has REFUSED to send returns via email because he knows that internet security is a myth.

How does New York State know, from an online application, that the person filling out the app. is in fact that person? They can't.

The State needs to stop mandating the technology used, and allow folks to mail their applications.

Mike is a cheap SOB who can't afford a computer. He needs to get with the program. How does an accountant NOT have a computer in this day and age. The guy is a moron and I'd like to beat his face in for being so stupid.

Its Tax Master, not Tax Masters, which is a national franchise. Other major tax preparers such as H & R Block have year-round assistance for customers. I have it. Can contact my rep. anytime for advice or help.
Again, does anyone have direct experience with this man, he does many small grocery store accounts. Please tell us your experience.

The scenario you're describing has little to do with the "security of the Internet". It instead has everything to do with users who simply don't understand the risks of sharing files, and inadvertently give out personal data through sharing or even by responding to phishing emails. It has less to do with Mike's computer competency, but rather the competency of those who come to him.

If tax returns are sent to the government using, for example, 128-bit SSL encryption, using today's computing power, the number of keys that would need to be tried in order to execute a brute force attack would be approximately 339,000,000,000,000,000,000,00 0,000,000,000,000 (give or take a couple trillion...).

Using distributed computing, the best estimate is that it would take longer than the age of the universe to calculate all of those keys....there is little to worry about with respect to encryption, believe me.

Let's clear it up.

Mike knows how to use a computer, he uses the latest greatest tax preparation software that money can buy.

Mike knows and uses the internet. He is also in the collections business and searches for people and their possessions all the times, and gets the job done.

He has had e-filing experts in his office trying to sell him on the merits for years. He has seen the misuse on a firsthand basis, and wants nothing to do with it.

The issue is the State mandating that the only way to register is on line. First they want him to register, then they will demand e-filing. He won't do it.

My guess is he will probabably end up driving to Albany and stand at some counter and demand that they register him then and there. Go, Mike, Go.

Go back to about 1975 and read about the insurance fraud perpetrated by this guy with Prudential and a number of Catholic schools in the area. I believe he served jail time for that, and for having at least two identities and at least two social security numbers. If I recall, he lost his notary and real estate licenses. I was surprised to learn he was still allowed to do tax returns, and even more surprised that people went to him for that. Apparently, he's still up to his old tricks.
