I'm a first time dog owner, so I have a lot of questions. I heard Waterville is the best, but the distance is an issue due to work schedule or if there was an emergency.

I've heard to stay away from New Hartford Animal Hospital and I've heard mixed reviews about Burrstone Animal Hospital.

Has anyone used CNY Veterinary Medical Services on Rt 233 Westmoreland?

Thanks.

I would highly recommend Dr. Link in West Winfield. Cheaper then NH and he knows his stuff.

New Hartford Animal Hospital was not bad, we never had any bad experiences with them, but they did get progressively more expensive. Waterville is great and more reasonably priced, but as you have already said, it's a little far for you. Have not heard much good about Burrstone Rd Animal Hospital.

hi..I'm also 'abc' from Fulton, and great minds think alike...Waterville vets are the ABSOLUTE best..I went to 4 others before them and 9 years later, still will go nowhere else. if you have an emergency, they will get you right in even on weekends.
CNY on 233 is great

You can't go wrong there. They have an excellent staff and you actually talk to the Dr. instead of a technician. Dr. Sadler spent about a half hour going over things with me about my new puppy. He's a great guy, prices are reasonable and of course they are on call 24 hours.

I agree. We take all of our pets to CNY. They are great there and they care. It's not all about the money. They also have evening hours and are open on the weekends. Dr Heather Sandler has a mobile vet service also.

The vet on 233 will take $1,000 from you to tell you something you already know. He tested my 18 yr. old Jack Russell for heart problems and did not do anything for his except tell me the dog had heart problems and charged me $650.00.

I would highly suggest taking your pet to Rome animal hospital to see doctor Mayers. She takes her time, she is very pleasant and genuinely cares about your Pets health. I've been going to
Vca for years and each time I've had different vets. But one time when my dog was very sick, she was the vet in that day. She was so caring to my dog and about the situation. I request her and only her now. I give her AAA+. The office staff there are also very pleasant, very nice group of people, and the prices are fare. They also have days when vaccines are half off.

My dog was hit by a car on St. Patrick's day...at 8:00 that night. When I called Waterville, the vet met me at the office within 15 minutes....definitely go to Waterville!

All vets and their places of work are money making black holes. They prey on your feelings for your pet to take you across. I went to Clinton Vet and my dog was in there for 10 mins and she charged me 150 bucks.. did nothing for that btw... when you hear the words "Bring your dog to Cornell" run for the door and make sure you don't drop your wallet. In today's economy don't let a vet make you feel guilty that your not dropping 1000 plus bucks

I highly recommend Dr David Nickel at New Hartford Animal Hospital. He is an outstanding vet who is honest, kind and compassionate. He truly cares about his animal patients.

We used New Hartford Animal Hospital for some time and really enjoyed the care of Dr. David Nickel. We did not like the rest of the staff though, and my daughter who shadowed there for a day in High School said how unsanitary the back areas are. (She worked at Burrstone Animal Hospital and was able to compare- Burrstone from the outside doesn't look as nice, but in the back surgery areas and such is much cleaner I guess) We switched to Burrstone Animal Hospital, and the vets there are average. They're not all the friendliest but any operations we've had done there have gone smoothly and haven't been too overpriced. There have been some instances where we've been charged for basically nothing. After our dog had a major surgery we noticed a big pocket of blood underneath his skin and were concerned that he was bleeding internally. We brought him in to get it checked out, and were told within minutes that it was normal, and we left. We were later billed fifty dollars. As a whole, Burrstone's nice and we'll probably continue going there. Though I heard Dr. Nickel has moved to a veterinary clinic called Beaver Meadow and I'd like to look into that. I've heard mixed things about Waterville. I have a friend who brought her small dog there for a surgery and during surgery they messed up, or so the story goes. I don't know, but we've heard of small dogs dying during surgery there because of mistakes on a veterinarian's behalf, so we don't want to take the risk with our small dogs. I don't know much about CNY Veterinary Clinic on Rte 233- but we know the vet who owns it/works there. Dr. Sandler formerly worked at Burrstone. He's why we loved it there; he was so thorough, and caring. Now that he's gone, we thought about taking them to CNY but haven't gone through with such an action yet.

I'd also like to add that the vet techs at Burrstone are incredibly rude. The desk staff are friendly, though, which somewhat makes up for it.

Are you going there to make friends or for good vets. My dog went there for 16 years..no problem. They were also very polite people.

I've gone to Route 233 before and they were very nice. I liked the place. I recently started going to Dr. Dubiel in Trenton and really like the doctor and his staff. He's a kindhearted older gentleman, and the office is on the quiet side. Their prices are quite reasonable. If you ever find yourself in a dire emergency, take your dog to Syracuse. There's an emergency vet on Bridge Street that is phenomenal, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg...which is worth it in certain situations (food bloat in my Lab's case). Best wishes for you and your new pup. : )
