My snowblower is no good.

My snowblower is no good.

I bought a brand new snowblower several years ago from Sears. It was a Craftsman. I paid $700 or something like that. The damn thing never stayed running. I immediately called the service department at Sears and they sent out a repair man. I went through this process several times. Every service man that can out said they fixed the problem - NOOOOOOO! The damn thing would start and stall, start and stall. You bet I was the laugh of my neighbors. The thing weighed 200 pounds or more and I'd have to struggle to get it back in the garage to restart it .... I called so many times. SEARS would not give me my money back. I was stuck. I told them I'd never make another purchase from them and have honored this declaration all these years.

End of story is this .... after years of frustration, I finally got a back yard mechanic to look at it and he knew exactly what was wrong. Something was not calibrated correctly (from the showroom) causing the snowblower to not have a good connection resulting in a hard start and then staling out constantly. I will always be indebted to this man (God Rest His Soul) for fixing what the incompetents and crooks at SEARS either would not or could not take care of years prior.

Everytime I use my snowblower now, lastly this AM -I think of Ray - may God Bless you in Heaven.

Most likely your main jet in the carb has some dirt in it easy and simple fix also do not use
gas with ethanol in it use 93 octane or better best bet is to just find a reputable repair man for your snowblower

This is exactly what the repair men at Sears (the ripoff place) told me time and time again. This was not the problem. It is a BS explanation and an "easy fix" for them - but it didn't correct my problem. Don't buy into it - it most likely is not the issue.

From someone who knows ....

Fastrac sells the non-ethanol. I started using it. Use it on snowblowers, mowers, small engines.

Go with one of the smaller models unless you truly have the need for the large heavier ones. I have both, but the smaller works just fine on the snow amounts we get.

Ariens is the best. You have to buy it from a dealer. I don't know who the local dealer is.

I want to thank everyone for responding but can someone tell me a good brand snow blower? I also think a smaller one would suit me better too, the one I have is huge and very old. I'm not sure of the brand unless I go out and check. I bought it at that farm place that was at the same location that Harbor Freight is now on Commercial Drive.
they should be going on sale fairly soon if you can manage to hold off another month or so, pop into lowes or home depot or tsc once a week and just check the prices and when you find them on clearance there head to where ever sells what you're looking for. Sorry I don't have any brand recommendations.

this man is right the new fuel caused probaly 90% of your problems, if you want a good snowblower for 500 or less them get a GOOD used JD or ariens you will be better off with a good used one of those than a new sears or so on

Apparently both of you are clueless and know nothing. What does ethanol have to do with dirt, this fool never said a word about checking spark, if the carb is a diagram, then it probably needs rebuilding. He has no clue what octane is, there are reasons to use a higher octane, and he doesn't know what they are. Most times there is gum inside a bowl carb, ethanol loosens it and it can be sucked into the jets.

The main jet is not for idling, so if it didn't start, it has nothing to do with the main jet.

He has no clue what he is talking about.
