Can anyone recommend a reliable arborist to diagnose a large oak tree, which I'm afraid may have problems?

Contact Cooperative Extension in Oriskany and they should be able to refer you to someone.

Re: A Cut Above, we used them twice for tree removal and they did a decent job and the amount we paid was competitive with others in the area. They did not appear to be crooks to us just tree removers who did a good job.

watch out for these rip-offs.$350 to trim 2 trees....luke especially!! he claims to be a certified arborist and is not!! he better go back to selling cars. comes to give us an estimate and had booze on his breath.....classy guy!!!
Did you get estimates from others? If not, then you are a fool. Depending on the trees and the work done, 350 is reasonable. We had several estimates given before having tree work done, we ended up going with mohawk valley tree specialists. The estimate was in the middle of all the ones we got and the work was done neatly and quickly...no complaints.

I am not connected in anyway to mohawk valley tree, you clearly have more problems with them than being overcharged. I will bow out of this personal vendetta and simply state what I originally said, mohawk valley tree specialists gave me a reasonable estimate and did a decent job.

If the guy u pick comes to your house with new equipment, you're gonna pay outta the arse for his work!

not really, just because someone has new or near new well maintained equipment doesnt mean that its going to cost someone more to have a tree done (gnumnuts) that just means that person spends his money wiser and spends time maintaining equipment so that its more appealing, if thats what you would base your estimate on rather than your operating cost and time invested in said project then you wouldnt be too busy, such is your case....i guess what im getting at is less time in a bar and drinking after work instead of properly maintaining and cleaning your tools and equipment equals a mess down the road, when your in the.. tree business your time is better spent maintaining your equipment than your buzz...you should try it sometime it makes for a much more of a progressive day!!!

Not sure who you are or why you are spreading lies about my company!? I have provided any and all info. to everyone we work for. I am not nor have I claimed to be a certified Arborist, however we have one on staff. Further more I would like to add I do not work while drinking! We provide some of the best tree care and removal service of the area and have hundreds of customer's that will confirm my claim. Judging by your extensive vocabulary and well written accusation's I would say you are not one to be a good judge of anything! To the person we worked for and said we did a good job thank you!
