I could't think of a dumber idea for downtown. I know people are thinking outside the box. But this one is too far out. Put the money into new sidewalks with benches and stuff. Heres an idea.....use the money designated for the parking garage for a parking garage or 2 little parking garages.

This would be a travesty. Whoever was the brainchild behind this idea need to gets slapped good upside the head.

We all see whay happens when there is a bus letting people off on genesee street. Or a car parked on the parkway. There is nothing good about this at all.

I was in Denver last month and they did the same thing on a downtown street but it was not the main street. The street is kinda like Varick with pubs and micro brewerys , in the median they have tables where people hang out an play games or wi fi . But that would never work around here, by in Denver it was pretty busy!

I think the current plan is to narrow Genesee Street from Oriskany Street to the roundabout.

Anyone who has spent any time at all in that area knows that the Oriskany Street/Genesee Street intersection is an area known for accidents. Funneling traffic from four lanes to two just seems like a very bad idea that will only compound the problem that already exists. Think about the area in front of the Stanley on show nights. Would things be better or worse do you imagine?

Where is the data that would suggest that a change like this would draw people downtown rather than make them look for a way to avoid it? This whole thing seems like an ill-conceived waste of taxpayer money. Fix the sewers and reconstruct the existing roads. That will deliver bang for the buck.

The poster called 'just maybe' is right on point. This kind of configuration is appropriate for an area with multiple attractions lining the streets of the kind that draw pedestrian traffic. It doesn't seem like an area dominated by business offices is the right application.

I'm selling a hot new stocking stuffer: Roundabout urinal cakes! Yes, Roundabout urinal cakes! On one side is a imprint of Roefaro and on the other is the overhead imprint of the Genesee Street roundabout.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard since the blue bag concept. And utica allowing deranged retards, drunks, bums, druggies, queers, perverts to roam downtown in the 1970s. That is truly what ruined downtown. The roundabout actually help a little. Get rid of the damn pawn shop on lower gennesee. Rid of puff stuff and all the schlock.

I kind of like the median, when I'm driving drunk, I just drive with my tires against it to keep me staight and it prevents me from drifting over the middle yellow line into oncoming traffic. Great DWI deterrant.

I have thus abided

They separated the sewer only in that small area at the roundabout site. Storm and sanitary sewers are still combined in many if not most of the rest of the city. The way I understand it, all of the combined sewers need to be separated so that storm (rain and runoff) that doesn't need to be treated won't be routed to the treatment plant. The alternative is to build a larger treatement plant that won't be overwhelmed by the combined storm/sanitary and result in the overflow running into the Mohawk River.

It is a terribly stupid idea. It will only be one more reason for us to avoid downtown Utica and head towards the direction of New Hartford. This sort of thing would work well for a street like Varick St. It would make sense to put this idea into that area where it will actually be a benefit. I don't understand how narrowing a busy main street into two lanes will work when it will be impossible to get around a bus or a van making deliveries. I don't understand how the elimination of free parking will make me want to shop downtown. Both of these moronic ideas will only serve to further motivate me to avoid downtown and spend my money on Commercial Drive.

horrible idea -- would be a shameful waste of money, even worse than the "roundabout"

I really hope the common coucil memebers see the type of negative reaction that this idea has caused and scratch the idea 100%. If I were Tom Clark I would be livid knowing I just bought a big building downtown not knowig the streetscape would not be the same.

Soon uticans wont be able to own cars and pay taxes so buses will be the remaining transportation anyway.
