This is the truth. I know several of the Golubs and have a few friends that work for the company. It's a gentle mans agreement to not piss in each other's territory. It's the reason why you won't see price chopper or wegmans cross that line. I know uticans have a tough time understanding concepts like this that don't involve tommy two knuckles or Anthony big lips but it's the reality.

I think a Hooters is long overdue for the Mohawk Valley. I heard that one is in the works for 2014. I think another upscale strip joint would be a good fit as well. There's been a void since the Showbar closed down.

Instead of a few stores at Sangertown I would like to see a major business such as General Electric, Lockheed Martin, BAE, etc. move into the area. Otherwise we have people working at retail/service types of businesses and spending their money at similar establishements. This area will never grow with that type of business model....

Your premise fails big time! In Syracuse we have:
Price-Chopper (Jews);
TOPS (UFCW-Mob & AHOLD shareholders), and;
Wegmans (Danny W.)

all pissing in a 4 mile square area.

Not to mention others such as:

Target;
Wal-Mart;
Aldi;
Dollar-General;
Family Dollar;
IGA Grocers (Nojaims, Big M, etc);
Year-round Farmer's Market;
Syracuse Real Food Co-op;

All further proves Utica has lost its edge.

ehhhh... I respectully disagree. The "unspoken gentleman's agreement" rumor (that varies from Hannafords to Price Chopper) is especially untrue if it's PC. There are several Price Choppers in Syracuse west of 81 (the rumored line of demarcation) that would break that agreement.

Coach is now all "Made in China" crap. It has really gone downhill. Look inside the bags.

Danny Wegman opens stores in reasonably upscale area. Utica cannot be labelled a "reasonably upscale area". Likely, Utica will never qualify for a Wegman's (unless we get that big chip plant we have been promised for years). Shopping at a Wegman's would be great.

Here is an article which mentions the supposed agreement between Price Chopper and Wegmans:

Wegmans also identified they would not be moving into the Clifton Park/Capitol region as it would not be profitable.

Wegmans has a solid business model in a tough, razor-thin profit margin industry. I visited family in D.C. and Wegmans has a store in Springfield, Virgina. The incomes in the national capital region can support a Wegmans.

They aren't wasting time expanding east to Utica/Albany area. A Chip fab plant won't bring a Wegmans to Utica. Same shcitty wages make Uticans too price sensitive to shop there. Dollar store? Yes. Wegmans? No.

You'll hafta move away from Utica to shop at a Wegmans I'm afraid.

Dude, did you even read the story before posting the link? There is no 'agreement' between Wegmans and Price Chopper! See here:

Wegmans spokesperson Jeanne Colleluori dismissed the idea of the legendary "agreement" with Price Chopper.

"I think you have to look at this from a business perspective, and businesses are looking to go where they can build the most profitable stores. And right now we're looking at what is best for our company."

"We do receive a lot of requests from the Albany area, and there seems to be a lot of curiosity about why we haven't opened up a store there yet," said Colleluori.

Yes, I read it. I said it mentions the "supposed" agreement...
According to Merriam-Webster the definition of "supposed" is:
1a : pretended <twelve hours are supposed to elapse between Acts I and II — A. S. Sullivan> b : alleged <trusted my supposed friends>
2a : held as an opinion : believed; also : mistakenly believed : imagined <the sight which makes supposed terror true — Shakespeare>

How about a trustworthy new car dealer that would compete with Carbone. And if your resume said you ever worked at Carbones, you were eliminated from consideration to work there.

Call it a "criminal free" dealership.
