Utica Ambulance drama, lost cause.

The city’s ambulances have gotten so bad, the fire department has been forced to make an emergency purchase.
During Thursday’s Estimate and Apportionment meeting, the board approved an $11,000 transfer within the fire department as a down payment on an ambulance.
The department’s current ambulances are over 8 years old, well past their expected 5-year life span, said Assistant Chief George Clark.
“We’ve been able to pull one off of the assembly line, and we’ll get it around Dec. 20,” he told the board.
Based out of the Oneida Square firehouse, the city’s ambulances respond to nearly every emergency call within the city.
The situation has gotten so bad that on at least two separate occasions in recent months, the department did not have an ambulance in service to send out on calls.
Earlier this year, the department bid out for two new ambulances, which are scheduled to be delivered in February. The city is purchasing them through a lease-purchase agreement, along with police and public works vehicles.
The unplanned third ambulance will cost $110,000. The city still is exploring how it will finance the vehicle, but it likely will be another lease-purchase agreement.
That funding will not come from the current budget year.
The ambulance service brings in roughly $1.8 million in revenue each year.
The board didn’t have much of a choice in voting to approve the transfer, said Councilman Edward Bucciero, D-at-large.
“We’re in the ambulance business, we have to have ambulances,” he said.

Ambulance service, seen the numbers under the Hanna administration. We were against the service because it was a joke and a sham. To this day I do not believe you can show a profit line, all hidden in cost and salary. I know my statements will cause a fire storm with UFD finest, and it did in 1998. What do I know about numbers? Do not forget boys I am a license loan officer in the great state of NC. So show me the numbers and prove me wrong and I will never come on this site again.
Also do not forget how the ambulance service effect the bottom line on UFD pension pay outs at the expense of Utica tax payers. Don't forget about Detroit situation. Moral of the story don't get greedy!

If the service was making so much money after all these years there would be no need for a lease purchase. By the way at what interest rate is the city paying on this lease purchase. Maybe I could help you after all. lol lol

Bring back Kunkel at no expense to the taxpayers.

This ambulance service has been draining the taxpayers for long enough. It's time to shut it down and go back to fighting fires.

Right on the money!!! End of argument. Even to this day every member of the UFD will swear on a stack of bibles the city ambulance service is bringing in money. WHERE????????? Brooks complains every week that a 26-man compliment must be staffed and to do so, OT must be paid every day of duty to maintain this staffing. And now the city's amb. are falling apart. A veritable money pit...the whole UFD.
