Worst meal you've had in Utica

This may not qualify as a worst meal, but I got into an argument once with one of the "chefs" at the restaurant attached to the hotel I worked at. They had a Saturday "Prime Rib" special each week. The only problem was that unless you are serving Prime grade beef (which only 2% of cattle is good enough to call), then you have to call it a Rib Roast. It is illegal to misrepresent it.

The Balkan and its "sister" restaurant The Hadley. I literally have gotten sick there twice! Eating there is a total gamble. The owner boyd bissel acts like his food is so superb but the place wreaks of inconsistency.
Everytime boyd goes away on some fudge fest, his little harem of panzies takes over and ruins the place. Nobody there knows how to order ingredients or hire workers who care about customer service.
My first food poisining episode happened last summer. I couldn't go back there if I wanted after that. Several months later a company I work with had a sales meeting over lunch there and everyone got sick.
The staff is usually half in the bag anyways.
I seen Dave Morgan get his ass kicked there by a waitress, the place is just too dramatic....I don't even want to address boyds boyfriend "pierre" and fellow fudgepacker todd. They are the cancer that destroyed fianchetto/
Several people have said they've had similar experiences.

Casa Too Mucha used to be ok, not great, but I had a horrendous meal there not long ago, and have not cared to return. The food at El Canelo is a little plain, but much much better--and authentic Mexican. I got food poisoning at Minar one time; a year or two later I went for a friends going away party and took my chances, and thought it was pretty good. Babe's and Carmella's food is bad. Joey's has gone way downhill. Applebee's is mediocre microwaved fare, but at least you know what you are (or aren't) getting there. That's what keeps them in business. Uno's deep dish pizza is the worst thing I have ever had in a restaurant--it must have 10,000 calories in it.

Well if Remsen is in the Utica area then The Soda Fountain is the worst food ever. Got the Tex Mex Burger, it was greasy and tasted awful, along with a side of soggy french fries. Never going back!

Agreed! Used to be good years ago and it is now the worst. Went there with my wife and we both sent our meals back. They supposedly made us two new meals but really just doctored up the unacceptable meals which still were terrible. The owner Sal refused to take the cost of the bill even though we didn't eat them. This place has really gone down hill in the last two or three years. Don't waste your time going.

Can't say I've had a decent meal here in quite some time. Sad really. I don't mind paying top dollar for great food and service, but it's almost impossible to find both at the same place Agree with the idea of posting places that are genuinely worth the money. Every place everyone mentioned having a negative experience I completely agree with. Everyone always boasts about Delmonico's, Carmellas, etc... My experience has been very sub standard food and service at both and both way overpriced. I'm from here and will never understand the chicken riggie rage! Geeze, it's only pasta & chicken and surely doesn't take a chef to make!! I've traveled and lived around the country so I geuss it's all a matter of perspective. If Utica is all you know then I'm sure one would think it was great!!

I think utica has a great selection of authentic food. I've been very fortunate to travel all over the country and I've seen many cities that just have restaurant chains and finding authentic food is nearly impossible.

Georgio's. The food is decent, but the service is horrible. That makes the whole experience horrible. When the owner is sitting there yelling and embarrasing workers, it does not make the customers feel comfortable.

Went there once when that door knob Missy was waitressing there. Talk about a big chunk of dried up old meat.

Casa too muhca...gross and nasty. Filty dirty carpets, dusty decorations.

I nominate them for restaurant makeover.

friendlys in north utica definitely. i'm not surprised it closed. it was literally microwaved frozen food from a box. could have made it at home and it would have tasted better.

as for none-chain meal, i have to say delmonico's bella napoli (the pasta chips nachos) made me sick. it was like dog food on a plate. never again.

I LOVE Pelleteri Joes! The whole experience - best long hots, mushroom stew or braciole ANYWHERE EVER - and I love the attitude of the wait staff, not having butter, being crammed into that dingy little space and the buckets of UC ... there is something classic about it and I LOVE IT
