There are very few good local restaurants in Utica. Just like everything else here, there is nothing worthwhile.

years ago my wife and i went to utica to christmas shop.she took me to a place that has all of these bags of potatoes.i cant remember the name but i had a milk shake that came in this tall cone shaped glass.when i got to the bottom of it there was a napkin wadded up in the bottom of it.the only saving grace was i assumed that it had gone thruogh a dishwasher.i went nuts on the manager and they didnt argue with me.that was disgusting.luckily it didnt make me sick.never gone there again.one of the best places to grab a burger is big bobs burgers and fries in rome.never been disappointed yet.
The only place I've been to that has bags of potatoes all around, is Five Guys. Was that it?

As far as locally/Chef owned, I can say only this. Great service can make up for horrible food, but horrible service can not make up for awesome food.
So, its a matter of perspective, for an example.
I went to Delmonicos Steak House, and though they have not changed their menu the entire time they've been open, the service makes up for mediocre fare.
Ex. Two: Been to Ancora food is probably the best around but the service is just horrible so I will not return.
You must be sooooo sophisticated to think that 10 cents worth of pasta on a big dish, arranged just so is 'best around'. If you want to self-promote, you should list your real name.

Gotta say one of the worst was Friendly's in North Utica. I ordered a burger and it came brown on the outside, rare on the inside. Like it had been stuck in the microwave for 10 seconds and slapped on a bun. Also, the greens at Georgio's gave me food poisoning last year.
thats because hey would throw them in the deep fryer i worked ther before

I have to laugh though because this thread is about the worst meals in Utica and most of the restaurants named on here are NOT in Utica..hahahaha..They are in New Hartford, NY Mills, and other places outside of here. And that comment that there are a few good restaurants in Utica and like everything else here there is nothing worthwhile????? hahahaha..Well..you need to think that comment out because the locations are not just in Utica. Oh..really..there are many places that could be put on this list that are not located in Utica. In my opinion..the worst is Olive Garden with their high prices and horrible food and portions. Sorry and that is NOT located in Utica either.

Obviously, we are talking about the entire Utica area, and not just the city of Utica. How myopic are you?

I agree with you on all of the above. However, if you chose The Willow's, better plan on being there for 3 hours.

Looking at the fitness of many Utica residents, it's easy to confuse a sack of potatoes with some Guido from E.Utica sitting in the same booth everyday.

you must have self-esteem issues? Why else would you pick service over food? Ya gotta be shortbus slow to choose an overpriced restaurant with so-so food like Delmonicos just for their service.

If you don't like the service somewhere man-up and tell a manager or don't leave a tip. I'll take good food with so-so service every time.

Umm to Kenny with his stupid comment back to me???? It is not obvious that it means the Utica area..It says Utica..and if it was to be about the Utica and surrounding areas that is what would have been put as the topic...So..how stupid are you????? And you know what.. no doubt it was meant sarcastically against Utica because that's how most of the topics are on this post. So..who says you know it all anyway???? Your wrong!

Can't say I've had a decent meal here in quite some time. Sad really. I don't mind paying top dollar for great food and service, but it's almost impossible to find both at the same place Agree with the idea of posting places that are genuinely worth the money. Every place everyone mentioned having a negative experience I completely agree with. Everyone always boasts about Delmonico's, Carmellas, etc... My experience has been very sub standard food and service at both and both way overpriced. I'm from here and will never understand the chicken riggie rage! Geeze, it's only pasta & chicken and surely doesn't take a chef to make!! I've traveled and lived around the country so I geuss it's all a matter of perspective. If Utica is all you know then I'm sure one would think it was great!!
