It is truely sad that this kinda thing happens.I send my condolences to the family of a lost one due to a bad lapse in judgement. The judge dispite his or her ruling did so i think in the fact of not only in how the accident happened but as in why a 18 year old was walking a minor and possibly another on the side of the road at 10pm at night i think it was a poor decision on the there part and on the drivers part giving her previous issues should have been alot more responsable and have stayed put instead of driving. so with saying that i believe that the time of 18 months is a respectful amount of time but the fine shoulda been greater i would have expected to have seen the judge add a fine of 75 dollars a month for every month he coulda lived towards a family fund for people who have lost loved ones in a accident or in the least spent her remaining time in helping families who have a exceptional family member who has survived a accident of this nature.
Ok. Unless you know exactly what you are posting about, don't.

You must not be familiar with the Oyster Festival, huh? This is an event where about 60,000 are cramped into a town meant for 500. That in itself shoud be cause for someone to be extra careful when they are driving! The outskirt of Urbanna where this happened is VERY rural and not lit, and people who live here, such as Shauna, KNOW this. EVERYONE who lives around here knows that the Oyster Festival has become a legalized drunk fest.(I personally experienced this when coming home from work on Route 17 and met a car going southbound in the Northbound lane.) My husband was then working at the jail in Saluda, and had an over abundance of drunks being booked all weekend.
The judge depicted this as 3 people that were walking down the wrong side of the road, like it was there fault. That is what I don't agree with - and it was my understanding that her CHILD turned her in - she did not turn HERSELF in = maybe I am wrong, but that is what I heard locally.

The child that was with her, was her 10-year old nephew. Several weeks ago, with a statement in hand, the magistrate did say, it was just a matter of time -- refereeing to the Oyster Festival as getting to big and as a result, it was a matter of time before someone will get hurt. Subsequent to the accident, there was a higher presence of law enforcement in Urbanna. The Town of Urbanna and the safety committee need to rework there safety plans as the Oyster Festival is gaining popularity -
