Redneck, the Urbandale police are only enforcing a STATE LAW. If you dn't like it, work with your elected officials to GET THE LAW CHANGED. An unofficial poll taken by KJJY radio station yesterday morning revealed that 62+% of people calling in believe that the state of Iowa should allow private citizens to set off their own fireworks. If many people believe as you do, it should not be hard to change the law. In the meantime, if you get caught breaking the law, be ready to accept the consequences. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

So I have two comments. One the story clearly states that the person was caught with "LARGE" and "DANGEROUS" fireworks, yet the picture in the article shows some of the smallest, most boring fireworks on the market, fountains. If this guy was caught with large fireworks then the picture def. doesnt do this story any justice.

Second, this law does need to be changed and I agree with Law Abiding that we need to take action with our elected officials. Fireworks are only as dangerous as the idiot shooting them off, hence why its legal in both South Dakota and Missouri...if you are smart they are safe, if you are dumb they are not. Same rules apply to driving a car, riding a bike, shooting a gun, etc.

I hope the majority of police check for adult supervision, and go on with their evening.

I hope the person who filed the noise complaint has karma kick them in the ass. I'm so sick of stupid people!! A couple bangs and you have to cry to the cops. Grow up!! I'd like to kick your butt along with my neighbors who can't maintain there yard, house, or make their kids behave. You just sit inside and blame everyone else for your life being pathetic.
The noise in Urbandale has been very minimal so shut up and try taking responsibility for your own shit. I guarantee you break more important laws than setting off a couple boomers. Look in the mirror!!

PROFESSIONAL PYRO, You Are Completely Correct !!!
You can not believe one word they give to the Media.
These were the cheapest fireworks you can buy, and there were not but a few hundred dollars worth.
I drive 18-wheeler trucks, and when in Ohio, I buy a permit to buy fireworks. You do not have to be a resident of that state to get a permit. You simply walk into a store that sells fireworks, buy a permit, showing that you are now a dealer. You now can buy the better & larger fireworks. If you do not buy a permit, you can only buy fireworks like they sell in Missouri.
I quit buying "lady finger" fireworks years ago, and spend a few thousand dollars, to get the same fireworks, they set off at 4th of July events.
There is a big difference between Iowa and Ohio fireworks laws, and more people get hurt in Iowa than in Ohio, simply because you use caution. The people that get hurt in Iowa are the ones that set off at the large 4th of July events, because THEY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE.
The 4th of July is my favorite holiday of the year, and I am not going to have any LIBERALS "Luigi Spines" tell me I can not enjoy my fireworks.
HAPPY HOLIDAY and GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!

Did that lady that lives near 63rd and Ashworth multiply and issue more complaints? I plan on turning our block into a warzone and not a single person will complain.
The next step will be- They will activate the National Guard to patrol the City and suburbs and will react with fireworks of thier own.
Violators will no longer be allowed to carry any form of match or Bic lighter for life. They will not be allowed to travel beyond the state borders with the fear they may buy a pack of fire-crackers along with cheaper cigs.
The Stock Market will crash due to fears of Iowans with bottle-rockets. Im scareing myself!

Seriously?! Why do people complain about it. We only get to do fireworks once a year on a special day, yes some ppl shoot them before and after but so what? a week of a little extra noise isnt a big deal!! People Love fireworks!!! Get over it!!!! I personally cant wait to go and watch them all and wish we could do it more often!!!

The cops will have a great holiday. They indulge in the drugs and now they can enjoy fireworks at the same time. What a fun day they will have. Drive recklessly, high as a kite and launching bottle rockets out their car window.

Everyone know what is going to happen to these fireworks.....the police are going to divide them among themselves to shoot off.

Just like when you were in high school and they caught you with beer. They took it and kept it for themselves. Rotten cheap f**ckers.

You are lucky that you don't have a special needs child who will scream in terror all the time he has to listen to this noise. If you really want to epitomize what being an American is all about...trying caring for your fellow human beings who are also American and take them out to the country. You do live in Iowa and I'm sure you can find a corn field somewhere if you look REALLY, REALLY hard.

What a bunch of weenies. Our country was founded on the principle of ignoring stupid laws. If you neighbor is irritating you, ask them politely to knock it off prior to calling cops who have better things to do.

If all women were like you, most men would still be virgin.
Not only that, I can see why your children will probably end up being gay.

Wow!! I seriously hope you are kidding!!! You call your self an American...try an ***hole. Get a life and try to look beyond your fireworks! There are people out there that have been born with disabilities and can not handle the noise....there are also many animals that can not handle the noise. Are you really that heartless??? Maybe you need a little God in your life if you can seriously post something like you did over fireworks!

The reason the larger fireworks are illegal and the are set off in certain areas is because they are a fire hazard. When they shoot them off there are always fire fighters on hand in case something goes wrong. Do you have them at your house when you are shooting them off incase you set your neighbors house on fire??? Just something to consider!
