Well I know they just hired someone to work in economic development. lol I look at all those acres in the park that get mowed and wonder why they couldn't let one of those guys go and not mow so many acres. Also, where is the money going for squad runs? They raised the rates and still laid off emts. I don't get it. Govt agencies pay unemployment only while the separated employee is drawing it, not like in the private sector. That means money will still come out of the city to pay these emts to not work. Makes no sense to me. God, I wish we had Dale back. That finance director is a BOZO!

I'm just sick about all of this. First we lose police officers and now firemen. It's a shame what this city has become.

I too have heard about the lay offs, it is such a shame to lay off public safety people when the Water Dept Supt. can run around making lotsa money, while running websites that look like he is a satanist and has 1/2 naked women on it. Look him up, apparently likes to be called MXlegion. It sure looks like him from the city website. Oh well, too bad we lay off good people and keep trash.

The Urbana Citizen made the firefighters sound like greedy fools. Their article about the Council meeting last night has no detail about the clothing worn by the administration or their emotional state, but great detail was put into the detail of their bosses, the taxpayers. I hope the people who vote are paying attention to this incompetent administration and their inexperienced finance director and not getting their opinions from a newspaper that know nothing about journalism.

Well for starters- with the firefighters we would not have to lay them off if urbana would just reign in the bosses. For instance mark Keller drives the fire truck and other vehicles to his house on eastview drive while he is on duty and using taxpayers gas. It is nothing to drive down that street and c city vehicles sitting there. We should start taking time stamped pictures and send them in demanding to kno why a gas hogging firetruck is being used as a personal vehicle. If we put a stop to costly foolish things like this our city and our finances would be in a lot better shape!

angie are you so clueless that you don't realize fire fighters are recalled to work from HOME on a regular basis in Urbana? he drives it home so he can respond directly from there to a scene. It would delay a response to someone who is injured or a home that is burning if he had to drive to the station and get the vehicle. before you say he should drive his personal auto, the fire truck has equipment on it that is needed. it's not like he's driving it on a family outing to the mall.

The fire dept is not the city office that is bankrupting the city. The administration and city council are using them as the fall guys for their own incompetence.

Driving it home for emergencies is one thing but if ur not staying home but a few min at a time then ur not using it for the good of the people like u want us to think. It doesn't sit like he's on call it pops in and out at will so before u make the assumption that its all business kno the facts first. Ask anyone who lives over there, I did and they'll tell u the same thing I did. Stop making excuses for waiting taxpayer money.

I know that this is a little late to post but the fire truck that you have seen or heard was at my house was the Clark State Community College fire truck because I taught fire fighting classes for them. I have NOT drive an Urbana Fire Division fire truck home or for personal use. If anyone would have read the side of the truck they could have seen whose fire truck it was. So Angie those are the facts.
