It seems there is a growing trend in ignoring the problem of domestic violence these days. The case in the news where a young girl showed up at school in this town bleeding from her wounds at the hands of a man that could very well be our neighbor, our childs babysitter, or worse, a member of our family. I myself have been a victim of a serial batterer for close to 13 years. I have finally gained the stregnth to stand up and take leave. My children have seen the brunt of this mans fury. You wouldn't know it from meeting him, he was always the jolly, jovial, helpful person you would meet on the street. Abusers do not show themselves to just anyone in the outside world. They will work along side you, unbeknownst to you, in the most public forums, in the most tight communities. The next time you are sitting down to breakfast in a public place, take a look around and think. Violence is closer than you think.
