As for a balanced budget, that was the work of the Republican House and Senate during Clinton's presidency.

I didn't say Nixon won with just the South, but Nixon won because of the South, and his Southern Strategy. Bullshit, Clinton Balanced those Budgets inspite of the Republicans in the Majority, Clinton used Line Item Veto power to Balance the Budget, since Line Item Veto Power has been ruled by the SCOTUS unconstitutional.

I was there. This wasn't handed down to me......

Well that has a lot to do with the GOP being in Shambles in the 60s and 70s, it was in 68 that Southern Democrats left the Democrat Party to align themselves with today's Republican party, they are now the Southern Republican Base. that is how Nixon won in 68 and 72.
How many balanced budgets did the Republicans oversee during their reign?
Name a program that you are referring?
The largest poverty program with the greatest financial impact today was implemented by Richard Nixon in 1970.

Here is a prayer commonly used in schools up until 1962:
"Almighty God we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers, and our Country."
What happened in the United States in the years following the banning of prayer and Bible reading from public schools?

These are just some of the statistics covering "us", the students.
*Pregnancies in Teen Aged Girls - By 1994 had gone up 400%-Highest rate of teen aged motherhood in the West.
*Sexually Transmitted Diseases - Cases of gonorrhea up almost 400% among students age 10 to 14.
*Two Thirds of teenage boys say they've had sex. By the time they are 18 they've had on average, 5 partners.
*Rapes committed by 13-14 year old boys increased 186%.

These are statistics about the parents.
*Divorce rates - up 120%
*Single parent families - up 140%

What about the teachers?
*SAT scores declined sharply
*American students often place last in international scholastic competitions
* When attention focused on teachers to find the reasons for students' failure, many teachers failed certification tests.
*Dramatic increase in school violence
*Student suicides up 253%
*Students lack basic information - poor skills - bad for the business community
*Military forced to provide remedial education for recruits

Our Country
*Between 1962 and 1993 violent crime in the US increased 660%
*Alcohol use increased dramatically
*National productivity decreased
*Drug use
*Illiteracy
*72 million adults functionally illiterate
*26 million can't read at all

The founding fathers knew that these kinds of problems are controlled by the heart. When you take religion and morality away, you have taken away the restraints and the training of the heart. The heart does not respond to laws and laws cannot stop these kinds of things. All of the groups mentioned in that prayer, the students, teachers, parents, and our country, have paid dearly since 1962.

I am old enough to remember the politics of the 1960s and 1970s, and Republicans are equally responsible for poverty programs.

Today, more than 80 Million working America at income tax time receiver poverty payments in the form of Earn Tax Credits, these are credits extended to Families with poverty level wages, in the Amount up to $6,000 per family.

The Median Income in America is less than $26,000 per person, or approx $50,000 per house hold, Low income today is any income less than $34,000 the threshold to receive the poverty payments on AGI at a period in American History when American Corporations are the highest profiting Corporations in the World.

If American could live off of their earnings, the Economy would not be in such horrible shape, people could go out and purchase their desires without depending on Banks to extend them credit to help them purchase and push demand on American goods and services.

Moore is and always has been a right wing political hack.

it's a dame lie, Nixon would not have won without the push from the Racist South voting straight republican in protest to the Civil Right Act and Voting Rights Act.

Nixon, like Romney is doing now used race baiting to gain the support of the Southern Voters promising he would repeal both the Voting Rights and Civil Rights Acts.

Nixon was a first class sleeze ball who eventually resigned after the biggest scandal in American History.

The Next largest scandal was committed by the Skunk Ronald Reagan, the Iran Contra Arms Scandal, where Reagan ignored the Boland Act and armed his private army in a war in Nicaragua, he raised money by allowing Cocaine to be trafficked in America. Reagan made an alliance with the Taliban from Afghanistan, and trained Bin Laden.

As for your other lie:
No, Bill Clinton Didn't Balance the Budget
by Stephen Moore
Let us establish one point definitively: Bill Clinton didn't balance the budget. Yes, he was there when it happened. But the record shows that was about the extent of his contribution.
And 1993 -- the year of the giant Clinton tax hike -- was not the turning point in the deficit wars, either. In fact, in 1995, two years after that tax hike, the budget baseline submitted by the president's own Office of Management and Budget and the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office predicted $200 billion deficits for as far as the eye could see. The figure shows the Clinton deficit baseline. What changed this bleak outlook?
Newt Gingrich and company -- for all their faults -- have received virtually no credit for balancing the budget. Yet today's surplus is, in part, a byproduct of the GOP's single-minded crusade to end 30 years of red ink. Arguably, Gingrich's finest hour as Speaker came in March 1995 when he rallied the entire Republican House caucus behind the idea of eliminating the deficit within seven years.
Skeptics said it could not be done in seven years. The GOP did it in four.
Now let us contrast this with the Clinton fiscal record. Recall that it was the Clinton White House that fought Republicans every inch of the way in balancing the budget in 1995. When Republicans proposed their own balanced-budget plan, the White House waged a shameless Mediscare campaign to torpedo the plan -- a campaign that the Washington Post slammed as "pure demagoguery." It was Bill Clinton who, during the big budget fight in 1995, had to submit not one, not two, but five budgets until he begrudgingly matched the GOP's balanced-budget plan. In fact, during the height of the budget wars in the summer of 1995, the Clinton administration admitted that "balancing the budget is not one of our top priorities."

What you are forgetting is that the Republicans today in the South, were then Democrats in the 1960s who filibustered the Civil Rights Act and against the Voting Rights Act.

It was not until Nixon ran that the Southern Democrats switch party loyalty to Support Nixon.

It's not complicated.

I didn't forget, you just don't know what you're talking about.

The South was straight democrat ever since Lincoln Freed the Slaves, Lincoln was a Republican.

U.S. Throws Lifeline to Detroit

By JOHN D. MCKINNON and JOHN D. STOLL

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration said it would lend $17.4 billion to General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, buying them a few weeks of financial relief,

Under the White House plan, the companies are required to extract enough financial concessions from workers, suppliers, dealers and other stakeholders to demonstrate their long-term viability by the end of March

The deal's ambitious targets for the companies include replacing two-thirds of their debt with stock; using more stock instead of cash to fund retiree health-care obligations; eliminating much-criticized union "jobs banks" that pay laid-off auto workers; and establishing wage structures and workplace rules that are more competitive with foreign rivals.

The loan package also requires the administration to drain what remains in the first half of the Treasury Department's $700 billion bailout fund, originally intended to aid the financial industry. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said lawmakers should release the final $350 billion "to support financial-market stability," a request likely to set up another battle with Congress

Maybe you guys forget the details of the Bailout Loans conditioned by the Bush Administration to the Automobile companies in Dec 2008.

The deal adds the two storied Detroit giants to the long list of prominent American corporate names to receive federal bailouts in recent weeks -- and comes nearly 30 years after Chrysler once before was propped up by Washington.

The auto agreement provides the government with nonvoting stock warrants in GM and Chrysler, adding those ownership stakes to the government's rapidly expanding portfolio that includes much of the American banking industry.

This was after the Bush Administration Nationalized the Banks, and America's largest Insurance Company.

Speaking from the White House at 9 a.m., Mr. Bush said the administration decided against forcing a bankruptcy to compel cost-cutting, fearing consumers might desert one or more of the car companies and touch off a broader collapse. Executives of the car makers have made similar arguments

49, then you are just about old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan, another stellar Republican financed Chrysler in the 1980s, during another Housing calamity where the Saving and Loans system was also Nationalized. As a matter of fact, the 1980s financial collapse was the format for the Bush Bailouts of the Banks and Automobile Bailouts.

he has to make up $5 Trillion some where.....
To pay off the debt, I don't think that taxing people during a "Great Recession" for ObamaCare (the largest tax hike in world history) is a real good idea. It seems that people that can barely feed themselves, wont be able to pay for the insurance and if they are receiving $1000 up to $6000 in EIC, poverty refunds, that money will then be taken away, going to Obamacare with the IRS confiscating it.

Plus, there are many businesses that will not hire someone because they're afraid of the cost to them for that employee's insurance. There are more chances of job hiring age discrimination since they will not want to hire someone over 50 because the insurance would cost them even more.

I hate that he didn't get nominated. ;-((

If Romney could get past the bad feelings between them during the debates, he would be wise to hire him, for sure. I was hoping Romney and Newt had worked out a deal, giving him a job in the WH and thats why Newt decided to drop out of the race, altho his numbers did decline with the open marriage scandal baggage. I guess we will see.
