Love To Eat Out

Little wonder if you eat in Pirrones that it recently flunked a St. Louis County Health Dept. inspection - the place is filthy and when I get a to-go order and look in the kitchen area where you pay for and pick up to-go orders it almost turns your stomach it's so dirty.

Never eaten there. Actually I am one of those people that very, very seldom dines out or get take out.

I've seen too many reports and one documentary about sanitary conditions in all kinds of restaurants, fast food and high end. I admit I am paranoid when it comes to trusting strangers to handle my food. I don't even buy from the grocery deli's.

Yeah, I know that's extreme. But besides seeing reports a couple of people in my family worked fast food places when they were teens and the stories they tell could make anyone upchuck.

Here is the article that shows that it "flunked". I see that they have some issues but I don't understand how they flunked.

You are either mis-informed, mistaken, or a blatant liar. They did not "flunk" their inspection. You can look up any inspection on the St. Louis County Health Dept web site. They have passed their last three inspections. The most recent one was a grade of 93(A rating). Do a little research before you spread your biased opinions as truth.

Could not disagree more.
Never had a bad dish or pizza from Pirrones.
In fact, getting a pizza tonight.

Screw County Health.

They shutdown church BBQ's and picnics and little girl lemonaid stands, meanwhile there was a Mexican place that had "Raw Sewage" in the food prep area, and the fire department found that!

Dr Gunn is a seriously misguided individual, who thinks us "normal folk" don't know how to cook for ourselves. Yet they let restaurants and other commercial establishments "bend" the rules if they bring in enough tax revenue.

Try contacting the county council, they know its going on and don't give a rats @55 either.

<quoted text>Yeah right...Frozen pizza from the grocery store is better. You're either the owner, or your taste buds are burnt out. There's no love in that kitchen. That pizza is a disgrace to pizza. This is STL. You have competition.
Not the owner, just a loyal customer
Dogtown Pizza, frozen at local grocery stores, is good, but not better than Pirrones.
Your comment about no love in the kitchen sounds like you were a former employee or one who is not happy in the kitchen.
Move on.

Everything boils down to money. You can't expect big brother to look after the health of you and your family. If you trust ANY facet of government run supervision then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Everything corruptible is corrupt now. It's the way this country has decided to conduct itself. Next time you're in a restaurant, walk back into the kitchen to check it out. Who's going to stop you?
Anyone who works there can stop you. A restaurant is not a public place it is a privately owned venue. Customers/potential customers cannot just stroll around a kitchen or any part of a business just because they want to. That's ridiculous and probably a health code violation in itself.

How would the workers, manager, whomever know what someone who just wandered into their work space intended? What with all the whackos running around I would certainly be concerned. A smart person would speak with the manager and maybe ask if they could see the kitchen facilities. It's up to the person in charge to deny or grant access, just like it is up to the customer to stay or go.

Some posters in this forum never have anything positive to say about any topic. Makes one wonder what their life is like. Constantly looking to find fault, point fingers and assess blame. Glad I don't live in such a depressing, negative atmosphere.

You open the door, you look around. If they tell you you can't be there, just say, "My bad" or "Oh sorry" and you got what you wanted anyway....no? I don't see a need to make a scene out of it.
So just by taking a quick look at a kitchen you can tell if the staff is violating any health codes? Most people are smart enough not to have to sneak around doing such things. A good business whether a restaurant or something else is easily recognizable. Likewise a bad place is also easy to spot.

I guess some people just like drama rather than using common sense.

eating establishments that are going to be 100% perfect. That would be impossible just like it is impossible for no person to make mistakes in every aspect of their life. And it should be taken into consideration that health inspectors can be "bought". They can give a four star rating to a place that a cockroach wouldn't eat. So, I agree, just use a little common sense.

In regards to Pirrones' I haven't eaten there for quite some time but it's because of the prices. I think what happens in a lot of cases is good managers and chefs, sous chefs, what have you leave a place and their replacements just aren't up to the same quality.

People get all worked up about restaurant ratings and never give a thought to what they buy at a grocery store. How can we know if meat is properly refrigerated, packaged, etc. How about bakery goods? How would you know if the baker washed his or her hands or dropped something in the batter that shouldn't be there? How about the deli's? There are no guarantees that any food you buy anywhere is going to be up to the FDA requirements. Actually if you read those requirements you'll find that all food is allowed to have a certain percentage of rodent hair, insect parts, etc. One example, a maximum of 15 fly eggs or one maggot can be in 100 grams of tomato sauce. True, look it up! Kinda of gross when you thing about it, so best not to think about it too much.

That is not a surprising view from you Rev. You seem like the type of person to just judge by how things look.

Try being pro-active and not passive expecting others to do it for you. It's not sneaking if you're straight up about it. It's not drama, I have plenty of GREAT restaurants in Florissant. I've given some glowing reviews on Topix before...I don't shit talk every establishment. Just the ones that obviously suck. Like Pirrones.

Like the other guy or gal said, none of us know what we are actually eating. You could go in a five star restaurant and there could be some PO'd chef or server who spit in you food. Same thing at stores and delis anybody could blow their nose in a salad or whatever.

And I've read the FDA acceptable "foreign objects" regulations, and they are gross!
