LCPD in good shape as Romero departs

When Harry Romero retires at the end of the month, he will not be leaving the Las Cruces Police Department short-handed. While two or three civilian positions remain frozen in the department due to the recession, LCPD is only short three or four officers, positions which are still being funded.

I can't believe anyone could think the LCPD is in "good shape". Even those that work there know what a disaster it is. This is just another example of the city manager trying to portray himself as doing a good job when the truth is FAR from that. If the current and new members of the Council want to stick around they need to see that changes need to be made at the TOP!

Parra is leaving because romero is not there to protect him...Bradley is an honorable man and police officer. I respect his decision to stay on and not leave the department in a lurch. It is the City Manager that needs to leave...this is only one of many departments that a mess....wise up city council, or resign, people want change NOW...not FOUR YEARS from now when you run for re-election.

Does this person have a name? I'm always suspicious when anecdotal stories like this emerge with no other details. LCPD officers have to document each time a taser is used (the taser's circuitry records all usages so even if the officer failed to document it, the taser would). BTW- I believe most LCPD tasers have the tasercam attachment, so innappropriate usage is that much easier to catch. Officers that misuse their equipment and/or abuse suspects are disciplined and can be terminated.

Couldn't the real story behind Romero's and Parra's retirement be simply that they've been with the LCPD for 36 and 27 years respectively, and they simply want to enjoy the retired life? LCPD retirement maxes out at 22 years / 10 months- any time worked beyond that does not go to increased retirement benefits. The goal of working for an agency that has a retirement plan is to eventually retire, or so they tell me.

As long as you are connected, you are good. If you come from a low-income family or are recently immigrated from another country (legally or illegally) you are toast. I wasn't trying to sound like either, thanks. My comment to you was merely pointing out that both Romero and Parra (and Bradley for that matter) maxed out on their retirement earnings long ago, and it shouldn't be a surprise that they are retiring. I wasn't attacking you, just pointing out a more likely reason for Parra's retirement.
PS- Tiberius Julius Caesar Augustus is usually just called "Tiberius"; the guy we all know as "Julius Caesar" (AKA Gaius Julius Caesar) is an entirely different dude.
