Council of LA Raza " If the American People Found Out.."

Health reform isn't for Americans anyway. Americans are just going to be paying for it.

Ms. Mitchell is describing something thta is not happening. It seems unlikely that a beverage tax will make it into the health-care legislation that Congress will tackle this year. In an interview with CNBC, committee chairman Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., said they're "on life support." Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, described them as "nuisance taxes." People should understand how Congressional legislation is developed before voicing criticism. I believe that Ms. Mitchell listens to too much Rush, Hannity and O'Reilly, who spread this nonsense to their listeners.

Will the likes of Udall, Bingaman and Teague give up their Congressional health plan in order to join the plan that they want to force on Americans?

You can bet that NOT ONE person in Congress will give up their benefits.

If the plan is good enough for the American citizen, then it is good enough for our Congressmen.

And just what this says about Democrats, the ones who are proposing these "nuisance taxes"?

America has the best healthcare one can buy!

To bad most of us can't afford it.

Here is a plan for you

Take 5% out of everybodies paycheck or let them chose a private insurance company (thats 10 bucks for somebody that makes 200 bucks per week btw)

Cover them 100%

Take everybody, make it mandatory!

Take 5% out of welfare money and unemployment money too.

Give everybody a Insurance card with their medical history in case their is an emergency.

Make it an option to buy up. For instance if youre having a baby you can pay extra to be in a private room if youre under the social program.

Yup!

Congratulations Ms Mitchell. You got your Frank Lutz influenced letter published in Ruidoso, Deming, Silver City, and now Las Cruces. You take a Senate Finance Committee's roundtable discussion and then off you go as if it is a done deal.

The soft drink & "sugary beverages" proposal was largely discounted as a non-starter because of the difficulty in administrating, and the perceived unfairness, because some junk foods would be arbitrarily taxed while others wouldn’t be.

Congress has not increased the tax on alcoholic beverages since 1990, and inflation has eroded the tax take by 37 percent. The federal government collects a little less than $10 billion a year in alcohol taxes. Just restoring the taxes to 1990 levels would raise $30 billion over 10 years. the annual social costs of alcohol consumption are $185 billion.(Economists’ Declaration on
Federal Alcohol Excise Taxes http://www.cspinet.org/new/pdf/petition-alcoh... ) Propsals kicked around were increasing the tax on a six-pack of beer 48 cents (.08 a bottle) from 33 cents to 81 cents, a 750 bottle of wine 49 cents – from 21 cents to 70 cents, and fifth of hard liquor 40 cents -$2.14 to $2.54. As with cigarette taxes, these would be 100% voluntary.

Either through ignorance or intentional deception Mitchell picks up Luntz’s deceptive “Socialized health care” phrasing - even though there is not a single proposal that comes remotely close to “socialized health care” as commonly understood by and used by everyone but the right-wing propagandists and those who believe them.

“Americans don't want to be forced and taxed into a health system in which federal bureaucrats will decide what kind of health coverage you may have.” Another Frank Luntz’s talking point that is an absolute falsehood.“PUBLIC OPTION” by definition means you pick the system you want because of an option. Because of insurance bureaucrats driven by Wall Street demands for massive bottom line profits, executives’ demands for massive salaries, bonuses, stock options, and perks, plus their own desire for big bonuses that comes with denying payment, neither my wife nor I have any option because of pre-existing conditions. Almost anyone locked into their employer offered plan has no option because of the bureaucrats in the Personnel Department and the existing tax-code.

As reported this morning, the nation’s “largest insurers, hospitals and medical groups have hired more than 350 former government staff members and retired members of Congress” and are spending $1.4 MILLION A DAY on lobbying Various industry supported swift boat groups are spending millions a day on misleading advertising. No wonder Mitchell is so totally confused.

So the highly credible racist and xenophobic Reich-wing blogger credits ""Suzanne", a female caller to Mark Levin's [Big hitter on Reich-wing hate radio] show on June 25th, revealed the ominous secret of the Democrat health care reform effort." and you find that "a real eye opener."

Highly developed critical thinking skills. Hell, one of the big hate talking points now is how the illegals are sucking up all the health care now. If you believe all the cr@p being spewed, how could it get any worse?

Hmm. So what to do about those among us who aren't drawing a paycheck/welfare/unemployment? Should we go off and die in a corner if we get ill?

well we have The change; the change is not so good, it will only get worst; the Community Organizer, Socalist Obama will tax, and tax,and tax; Then Obama and Biden will say spread the wealth. I for one don not want anything to do with this Tax and Liar President Obama: Keep your hands off; I know you will tax my pepsi, or my soft drink, then my beer, then my cnady bar, and you will continue to sya that their will be no more new taxes! Liar, Liar, Pants, on fire; President Obama is worst then King Henry, Remember your history and the Boston Tea Party; Well just wait for the VAT Tax, just maybe a coffee tax, one more tea tax / and do not forget the new Greengas energy, utilty tax, and then the medial insurance tax ? When will it stop / Obama will also give free health care to all Illegals, and then free imrigation, with no closed borders; Remember to thank one Obama's Czars. FYI: First Lady Michelle has several staff members, and a fulltime beauty consultant, the cost to the American Tanx Payer for JUST Michelle Obama STAFF is over$95,000.00 per month; yes over ninteyfive thousand dollars per month. Well you know President Obama has two homes, and one is in chicago, yet Obama's Auntie is on WELFARE; guest what you and I pay for her medical, food stamps, housing, etc. So much for THE GREAT LIBERAL PRESIDENT; Just turn American into a third world, and most likely just a part of RUSSIA and some more CZARS for Obama to have more control on are freedoms.

I see a lot of people talking here. how many of you have lived under government health care. Anytime the gov "competes" with a private for profit company they are at an unfair advantage. I have lived in Europe on the economy and unless all you need is a GP the care is rationed by limiting the number of specialist per population. The doctors don't really care because it doesn't matter to them the degreee of care they give after all they are going to get paid the same if they are the best or worst.

Al Reine - If you knew your history, you would know that the Boston Tea Party came about because of TAX-CUTS for the East India Tea Company. You can read about it here: "The Real Boston Tea Party was an Anti-Corporate Revolt" by Thom Hartmann http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/04/15-1... or you can watch him discuss it here: http://www.videosift.com/video/What-The-Bosto...

I'm sure Michelle Obama's staff salaries are quite in line with what we spent on Laura Bush.

The rest of your screed isn't worth commenting on.

If government health care then
"Take Fidel Castro, for example. When "El Maximum Lider" took ill, he was not treated by those famous Cuban doctors whom President Obama admires so much. Instead, Fidel imported the best specialists -- from Spain.

Even in the free nations, patients who can fly... fly. Several years ago the Premier of Quebec was diagnosed with a mild form of cancer. He might have waited for treatment under Canada's famous national health system. Or, he might have flown to Buffalo, New York. Would you care to guess which path he chose?"
