Ever since I moved to Las Cruces 8 years ago there has been a city ordinance that required storm water ponding on each new residential or commercial lot. However, this requirement is being almost universally ignored in residential developments. When is the city going to enforce storm water containment to prevent storm water discharges onto residential streets?

Maybe the city will enforce the storm water discharge codes when somebody figures out how to prevent the ponds from looking like zero-scaped eyesores. |

I'm sorry, but you are misinformed. The City does not require, and actually does not want on-lot ponding. They prefer regional ponds, which are more effective. On-lot ponds, where approved, are built at the time of subdivision construction. Often, the home builder will fill them in when grading the lot. Or the homeowner will, as they usually have no idea why the hole is there on the tiny overpriced lot they just bought. And when this happens, the City has no recourse. Other than the City or your neighbors suing you, which is unlikely, nothing will happen to you.

They also need to outlaw rock 'yards,' the epitome of eyesore. They also increase the heat retention and reflection onto our houses, raising everyone's A/C costs considerably. Plus, they look stupid and show how lazy the owner is. |
