State Sen. Yancey McGill, a Kingstree Democrat, got the bill passed in a couple of days without even having a public hearing or debate.

"It's a great idea," McGill said Tuesday, calling it an opportunity to express beliefs. "People don't have to buy them. But it affords them that opportunity. I welcome any religion tags."

What about Wicca, commonly referred to as witchcraft? "Well, that's not what I consider to be a religion," McGill said. And Buddhism? "I'd have to look at the individual situation. But I'm telling you, I firmly believe in this tag."

You caught that little detail too huh?

"I support any religion having it" is what he says, what he means is any religion he (or the State) deem worthy.

How is that not a case of the state supporting a religion again?

I hope those of you who live in South Carolina write to State Sen. Yancey McGill to voice your opinions! This is simply ridiculous. Whether he "considers" Wicca or Buddhism to be religions worthy of endorsement or not, it is NOT his decision to make. That's why we have separation of church and state.

As for the Ten Commandments being a foundational part of our legal system, that's just laughable. Somebody turn these people off!

I.m sorry but this is just unacceptable ! who is he to say that wicca or Buddhism is not a real religion ? we are just like everyone else we have the right to believe as we want to that is why people came to this country in the first place . I am so tired of people saying being a Christian is right, well to me its not ,I will believe the way I wish and in who I wish even if I have to die for it . the Sen. should stick to things he knows and leave religion alone or did someone for get that it states in the constitution that church and state shall remain separate .
