The media should learn a lesson from this and that is to stop exploiting the grief of humans for profit.

Sometimes media needs to know when to say when. When dealing with families of both victims and the accused, tensions can rise. We all know how certain outlets like to sensationalize to make headlines to move papers and drive up hits on their websites.

The media has to be "The one who gets the story". When someone dies or murdered, learned some compassion and leave the family the heck alone. I think we can guess how they feel. As far as a murderer goes, the family didnt do it,leave them alone too.

The mother is 15 years older than her son. That says volumes about the family.

Sounds like a great family! Learn something from this people...get educated, find a job, work hard and make something of yourself instead of living off others!

I cant believe this stuff doesn't happen sooner. I work in law enforcement and the media reporters are vultures unconerned with the victim's emotions or feelings. That includes you 11alive!!!! I feel that the story is enough photos and videos are completely unneccessary

What happened was wrong. Regardless of color. I saw this story yesterday and CNN reported that the were racial slurs being yelled at the reporter.

Also the reporter's station mgr (who is white) encouraged her to file charges and defended her saying that she was respectful of the family.

This is outrageous.
I hope she gets their trailer!

I just read the article and watched the video. Sad display of ignorance on the part of the family members. Since the attack was filmed there is plenty of information for the reporter to use when those women go to court for assault charges. What were they thinking? The people who tried to stop the attack were gently trying to break it up to avoid charges against them, I guess. Interesting that the cowards were three against one woman. They were beyond ignorance.

The reaction of the family allows the public to understand why so much bad luck as come upon them. They are apparently ignorant and left behind in time.

I am torn on this one. Does the Media abuse their First Amendment Rights? Yes! Absolutely! For sure!! They are so far out of step with what the framers of our Constitution intended that it defies logic. The national media, and to a great extent the local media, is more concerned with making (or creating) the news than they are reporting it.

However, that does not justify the physical attack on a news crew by what can only be termed as "white trash". My secret self wants to cheer a "news" organization getting their butt kicked, either literally or figuratively, but it is still wrong (and illegal).

Looks like they need to put a few more of that family behind bars for the good of society.

Hey! News is news no matter how you make it. Just a few more of these attacks and the press will learn to back off a little. For a while at least.

How far should the media be allowed access to suspects and families? And wouldn't it make a cool reality show to follow the media personel around for a while?

Granted the family should not have attacked this reporter (Not Lady) in view of the camera. But, you have to admit what she tried to do was in very poor taste. The reporters and news media are never concerned with the feelings of the people involved in stressful situations anymore. It's only about the story and getting to it first.

I say this reporter got what she deserved for her serious lack of judgment and the family got what they deserved for their lack of decorum.

Another beyond ignorant comment. Why was this reporter choosen to attack. She was standing on a public sidewalk as stated in the video. Why didn't the Trash Squard attack the male reporter? I didn't see anything in the article about the reporter's lack of judegement. Apparently then, the male reporter had a lack of judgement, so why did they not attack him? By your opinion, he had poor taste as well.
