Let me enlighten you. Up until about six or eight years ago, it was a thriving market. The building was full of vendors and there were few empty spaces. There were even vendors outside in front of the building. Then the cantankerous codger who operated it got greedy and wouldn't pay the rent increase on the building. So he closed it and attempted to move it to Fulton. That permanently ruined it for everybody. No one wanted to drive to Fulton, the Fulton location was smaller, and the vendors wouldn't support it. After a number of years he brought it back to the original location in Union City, but it never recovered. It has fewer and fewer vendors. Talk to them and they will tell you they don't do any good there so they go to other places like Friendly Franks in Jackson. I went through there recently and over half the joint was empty. You can see everything in less than 30 minutes. This knucklehead ran it in the ground big time. When I am in there I seldom see money changing hands. Wish I had a better review, but sadly, that's the facts.

To me it is not really a flea market. Most everything sold there is new. To me a flea market is things people gather together like for yard sales. They might do better if there was more of that.

At any flea market, you have to go very early like 7 a.m. to catch the good finds. I used to take a truck load of typical yard sale items to the flea market a couple of times in the summer, rent a few tables outside , and make a quick $400.00 and be home by 12:30 - 1:00. The early birds get the used stuff up quick :-)

You ain't up to speed with the Giant Flea Market, dude. They don't open until noon on Friday and 9 or so on Saturday, and maybe 11 or 12 on Sunday. That's another thing that made it harder for vendors and patrons, the operating hours were reduced.

I remember when I was a kid, the flea market was so big, it was in the 1st wal mart (now EWs) and out at the fairgrounds, even in the winter! It really used to fun, but I haven't been in years. The last couple of times I went when it was at it's current location, fewer vendors, less choices, etc. Everything that comes to this town just ends up dying.

I agree with Notanymore. We used to have a nice Flea Market. Now it's either the same old junk or same new stuff. It does have a lot of empty space. Too bad.

First, all the Flea Markets are hurting especially Union Citys. You would think the Flea Markets would be bombing with this recession but they aren't they are dying fast. The people that run this market are the reason it is also hurting. They have no knowledge on business. They haven't ever been in business till 2 yrs. ago when this place opened back up. Alot of the good ones have passed away or got to old to make it back this time. This place is only good for socks flowers handbags and a bunch of junk...

I heard that they are trying to recruit new vendors and trying to revive it. I hope so. Its still fair but used to be a great place to shop for just about everything.

If they can hold out about another year, they will have more vendors than they have room for. Now that Goodyear is closing, there will be plenty of unemployed people selling all their collectibles they have accumulated. The Messenger will have two pages of yard sale ads, too.

It won't last much longer. The vendors are just trying to suck the last few pennies they can get. Flea Markets are a thing of the past !
