I recently bought me a 2011 Polaris Ranger 800xp,,,and I can tell ya this, I'd trade it for my old 660 Rhino back in a HEARTBEAT!!!
The new Ranger is JUNK,,,from the day I took it off the trailer it has had this popping/clunking sound when letting off the gas & after changing gears,,,And the "Engine Brake" is the most ANNOYING FUCKING THING I've EVER HEARD!!! It CHIRPS so loud EVERTIME you are trying to stop after driving around 20mph or more,,Took it back to the Dealership And THEN they explained to me that,,,,,," Polaris's are just noisy machines ",,,,,,Nice of them to mention that AFTER I just spent $11,000!!!!!!!

DON'T WAIST your money on a POLARIS RANGER!!!!

We bought a Ranger XP from a Polaris dealer in Post Falls, Id. in 2010. Bought all the bells and whistles to a tune of over $22K and I agree with "no kidding". There has been zilch in customer service from the very beginning. When we received it the hood wouldn't shut right, the rear windshield had a huge scratch across it, the windshield wiper was installed wrong, etc. When my husband started looking around he discovered the side body panel was cracked. Amazingly the dealer had a bunch delivered that way and didn't see it before we informed them of ours. Are you kidding me! "no inspection" on new deliveries?!!

The thing has been amazingly noisy from the get go. My husband had to tighten screws and bolts and include padding between bars to reduce excessive rattling. The gear does not always disengage from 4 wheel drive right away. Sometimes takes working it several times. The dealer can't seem to find the problem. Since it is intermitten we must be imagining it or doing something wrong.

Had a record November snow fall. Put tracks and plow on the Ranger and it worked like a charm until the CV joint broke while turning it around in the front yard. Dealer quote "Never heard of that before". It has taken a week for the gauranteed two day delivery to get the part into the dealership. We live over and hour from the dealer so had a friend pick up the part since he was in town. The parts department had agreed, very nicely, to copy the pages from the manuel for my husband, giving instruction on how to install the new part. When our friend picked it up the instructions they gave him didn't have much information on it and they sarcastically told our friend "most people bring them in here to be fixed". Well sorry we don't have a wench to pick it up, put it on a trailer, get it down our snow covered half mile driveway and bring it over 60 miles to the dealership so they can keep it (who know how many days) and charge us (who knows how much money) then act like they had done us a great big favor by working on it.

WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER POLARIS PRODUCT! EVER!

We had all Polaris equipment when I was in Afghanistan at the FOBs {Fire Bases} and we had a lot of problems with the suspension systems and frames both with the “3 and 4 wheelers” our T&P mechanics were always having to weld up or rebuild some thing with them,, The John Deer’s held up much better. Part of the problem was with the square tube construction of the Polaris as it does not hold up at all,, Round heavy duty tube is as always the way to go. My Victory Motorcycle is a great bike and its built by Polaris but as far as there off road stuff goes I think I will stay with Honda or JD,,, Cheers

I bought it at Abernathy's,,,and after I stressed OVER & OVER how unhappy I was with a the clunking and other extremely loud noises , they didn't even make an attempt to make it right, I even contacted Polaris and got NO response, So I got tired of that p.o.s. and just three months after I bought it brand new, I sold it on ebay and took about a $1,800.00 loss. Gonna Buy another YAMAHA RHINO like I had before next, from anyone BUT Abernathy's.

no kidding did you not think to test riding it first??? And if you think the Yamaha Rhino is good that just showes that you have not clue what a good off road vehicle is anyway the Rhino is a huge piece of junk and always has been from day one. and to Sticking your neck out round tube frames are always weaker and hold up far worse then a square frame. That is why you never see trucks with round tube frames or round beams in buildings it is because they are not as strong structurally anybody that has ever walked by an engineer class knows this. Polaris makes the best ATVs on the market today.

I DID "test ride" it before buying, but the noises that JUNK Polaris made never happened on a smooth Asphalt surface , and I do have a "clue" about Yamaha Rhinos,,,see I had a 2006 660 Rhino before the Polaris, I sold it because I needed something to seat three , And Even though my RHINO had OVER 800-hours & just under 1800-miles it was still TEN TIMES the machine my Ranger was,,,,I took my Rhino through anything and NEVER got it stuck,,the two times I took the Ranger through mud I got stuck, AND I had the Maxxis bighorn tires on it,,,I did like the power & tough look of the Ranger,,,but that's All. I'm happy for ya if your Ranger isn't junk but mine WAS and Abernathy's did NOTHING to try and fix the issue. more or less I was told I bought it, it's my problem now.

The only thing I can tell you is that round tube construction while more labor intensive and expensive is definitely stronger, Roll cages in NASCAR and aircraft frames and the body’s of most dune buggy’s them self’s are constructed from round tube stock for that very reason. The only thing I can say is that you appear to have a vested interest in this like maybe you work for Polaris. My experience with this is first hand.

Nah,,,just bought a junky ass Polaris, that's all the reason I needed to "dislike" . now that I've got rid of that p.o.s. I'm going to look at the new Can-Am side by side Saturday,,but I'm prolly gonna go back with a well built machine like the Rhino.
