I have been in front of Jimmy Smith as a judge. I am sorry, he is a good man, but he is not what is needed as a judge. He makes to many allowances for the criminal, and is more of a couselor than a judge.

I know Jim Powell, he will stand up for the victims as well as making Law Enforcement do thier jobs better so that the criminals stay behind bars where they belong.

Jim Powell is not fair, he is a snitch lawyer. He works with the gov'n, not in the best intrest of his clients.

I don't know who Little TBI is but truthful is NOT what I'm thinking. Jim Powell is the most fair person I know. He knows criminal laws and can make a decision without having to get everyone elses opinion. HE IS JUDGE MATERIAL. I'm not sure where you are getting your information but it is incorrect. Voting Jim Powell General Sessions Judge is the best decision Obion County could ever make. Jimmy Smith would be an excellent Chancery Judge as he knows civil law but he has no business being a criminal judge. Just ask anyone who deals with the current judge on a daily basis.

I will tell you this, Being an officer. If Jim Powell tells me he is going to do something then he stands by his word. I have had other attorney's tell me they are going to do something and then they change their tune.

Jimmy Smith, may have good intentions but here are just a few things the public needs to consider when they think about casting their vote.

1) Jimmy Smith does not follow the law when it comes to Driving on revoked seizures. He wants to give the person who has been convicted of dui a chance to get their license back. These people are told ahead of time that if they are caught driving while their license is revoked their car is subject to seizure.

2) how long do you give somebody that continually comes in to court a chance to straighten up before you convict them and sentence them to jail time?

3) Do we really need a misdemeanor drug court? Holy Crap!!!

4) Domestic violence, where do I start. Jimmy Smith, you would hav etosee it to truely believe it.

5) when is the last time you saw a county inmate working? Answer, rarely due to Jimmy Smith not sentencing people to jail.

6) Is it a judges position to talk soemone out of plea and tell them to get an attorney to get a judicial diversion (get out of jail card) and then get your GED.

These are but a few things to consider.

Please for the betterment of Obion County, VOTE JIM POWELL!!

I am a ex drug addict and a felon and I am telling people they need to vote Jim Powell. I want the bad guys behind bars and Jim Powell will be fair but will prosecute what needs prosecuting. Im like most people when it comes to jimmy smith he is wanting to many people to like him. But who wants a criminal to like you what will they do for you and our community.

Yes, It is the Judge's position to tell the defendant that his hands are tied by sentenceing guidelines once a plea of guilty is submitted, so they should get a lawyer for their best intrest. Jim Powell in his past couple years as a lawyer has taken the position as a "Plea Deal Lawyer" which incorporates the working with the gov'n behide the clients back when the client may not even considered taking a plea. Makes the defendent look guilty just by him discussing a plea with the gov'n. Jim Powell has ethical problems also. He is part owner of Bill and Cody's bar in downtown Union City. I see a problem with a Judge who owns a bar, do you? We do not need a liqured up Judge bounding everyone over to the grandjury, when we all know the grandjury will indite a ham sandwich.

Let me explain the plea agreement portion of an attorney's job. A defense attorney's job is to get the best deal for their client, and also to defend their clients rights. They can not or should not make up a story for a person's defense. I hate to tell you most people who are arrested are guilty. There may be a technical issue, but they have done the crime. Lawyers, no matter who they are start plea discussions with the DA right after grand jury. This is done to present their clients with their options. If their clients don't like the deal they do not sign off on it and they go to trial. A lawyer can not make his client accept any deal offered. So your arguements about Jim Powell do not fly.

I can say this I would vote for Jim Powell due to his ethics. The interest you say he owns in the bar, well he bought the bar for his wife and later sold it to his brother. Jim does not run that business and even if he did, he is an upstanding person. So that arguement is also a mute point.

I do know in my experience that Jim Powell is the best qualified for this position. I will back him 100 percent.

The arguement is he drinks like a fish. I am a college student and on Spring Break I went there and saw him drinking and he was red faced, which means he was a red face drunk that night. Now this was on a Friday night so not like he went to court drunk the next morning but who drove him home? Himself is the answer! Next point, when I have hired a lawyer for my screw ups, they did what I told them to do. He does what he wants to do for his self, to make him look good infront of the other gov'n officials, why? b/c he knew he would be running for this position, so the past couple of years he was for his self and not his clients, makes you wonder what HIS adgenda is? But he will be sentencing ppl to jail like he has been doing anyways. Vote for him please, but I will not vote for Vastbinder and maybe he will lose and you will lose your job also mr deputy. Its not good to talk about who you would vote for in public could effect your life more than you think.

I am taking back what I said about losing your job, but you should investigate for yourself his performance from the last couple years as being a defense attorney, ask his many clients in jail right now, you should have access.

Little TBI?? You apparently aren't in Law Enforcement and even if you are you apparently aren't very good. Investigation (which is 90% of an officer's job) is NOT your forte'. Is Jimmy Smith a good Attorney, yes and no. Good civil Attorney YES, one of the best; Good Criminal Attorney NO, has no clue. I have actually heard him ask people while on the stand what they think he should do. HINT PEOPLE: If ya have to ask Police or other Attorney's what to do while you are sitting on the bench and suppose to be the one who knows the law, you probably aren't the best choice to be in a position of power. As far as Jerry Vastbinder no one is even running against him so don't think we have to worry about that one for a while. Have a great day!

God, I hate Police, please forgive me. The name, Little TBI, is supposed to be sarcastic. I know everything there is to know about Law Enforcement, it is a low life profession. In Obion County & Union City there is only 5 officers I would not bad mouth. 1) Rafe Walley 2) Melvin the Black Male Officer 3) Chucky Moran 4)The Black Female Officer
5) Kay Seala's mom aka Robo Cop. Hell let Vasterbinder have it, glad no one else wants to be a low life like him. Ask him how Jerry Kitchen's ass hole taste.
