Where do they get these people? They don't even know the laws! Is it really true they can be hired without going to a police academy? Say it isn't so!

Sadly the majority are too lazy to do their job, or use their position to get away with things themselves.

They probably don't wave back because they have their car parked reading a magazine or taking a nap.

well lets take it back to 3rd grade where name calling is all day everyday

anyways yes im aware that they pay taxes but there is more people then cops so therefor their small tax percent isnt that much to consider what brand new cars they get to rag out
also is it not there job to observe everything
and yes they are looking because most the time im looking directly at them

reminds me of a song
sings "whos that over there looking at me "

I have never waved at a policeman anywhere in the south that didn't wave back unless he was on his radio or going to a call. Perhaps attitudes are present on both sides of this debate. Frankly, it is there job to observe what happens around them. Let's see you go into a bar brawl, or worse, on a domestic violence case. Take a job where you are expected to face the possibility that the bad guy as better arms and ammo than you do. Are there bad officers? Heck yes, just like there are bad people in any profession. Are there some with bad attitudes? If you're looking for that in people, you can see that anytime you want to see it.

You people have no idea what Officers give up to do their job. If you even had a single clue you would have the utmost respect for them. Instead of getting to know them you'd rather get on here and trash talk about them. Why don't you find a cop and ask if you could do a ride along one night and see for yourself what it's about. Perhaps they don't wave at you because they don't like you or perhaps they are looking for someone and are too busy. Get a life and get to know them before you judge them. That is all.
Oh and before you even start, no I'm not a cop nor am I married to one, I merely have friends who are cops and know what they do. I have done a ride along and I would never even attempt to do their job. It's not all about riding around and messing around wasting "your" gas.

one reason you see them riding around is they are in a noticable car. if they were driving a normal vehicle you would pay attention to them. also some of them live in the city and so they are actually paying their own pay to an extent with the taxes they pay on their homes. can you say that about your job. dont think so. i think for what i know they do a pretty good job. dont let a bad experience with 1 officer set your mind to them all. most of them are pretty good people.

Love the cops here. Great hard working people but there are a few bad ones. They have a strenuous job most would never take.

You should buy and listen to a scanner to see how many calls for service they go on everyday. Actually quite a few calls with weapons involved. You are obviously one to criticize simply not knowing what it is exactly they do everyday. Maybe you should do a ride a long to get a slight taste of what it may be like to risk your life on some of these dangerous calls but you most likely will not rather sit at home a criticize people who have more balls than yourself.

They can be on the force up to a year without going to the academy. Seems a little twisted, eh?

You're exactly right BUT everything they do is examined by a field training officer. He is always with that officer if he is working. Anything and everything goes through the supervisor that's with him. Study up a little more before you post something stupid, eh!
