I was at a game this Saturday and the referee's that are calling these games are horrible. They are more concerned about getting out of there early than doing there job. Its a shame that when a game is to start at 2:00 and get there 5 minutes early and they are in the 2nd quarter. If it happens again I will demand my money back. The 3rd and 4th grade girls team that walked out in the 4th quarter had every right too. Of course they were playing the league presidents team and were getting beat to death. Thats not what that league is suppose to be about Steve. Teaching these kids fundamentals and sportmanship. Now these grandparents and parents have to sit behind the players bench because you didn't clean the main gym. Way to go there. People like this and the one before you are killing this league and just maybe 1 day it will fold. Oh yeah, one of your ref's needs to be in a rest home and the other one whom I've never seen before needs to lose about 200 pounds so they can get up and down the floor.

they are suppose to be there 30 minutes before the game starts.. it has it on the schedules. it is on there in case the game starts early!!! but I do agree about the refs, they are not calling the games fair!!

If your refs called every walk, dbl dribble, foul, etc, these games would last until midnight.
Maybe you need to be a ref for this league? Just one day?

No ,the games would not last forever! Maybe you need to know more about the league before you speak! There is a constant running clock except for timeouts when the games are being officiated or supervised correctly.

I stand by my original statement in part; you need to try officiating these games. Maybe the "running clock" is a viable reason to not call too many fouls that would take away actual playing time? I do thank you for that bit of info on the running clock.

I thought they were told to be there early to get warmed up and be ready to start on time. I don't think it's so they can start the games early. There are too many parent/grandparents missing games because of this. If the game starts at 10, start the game at 10. And I coach for another team and was proud of the man that called his girls off the court because the referees were allowing them to beat each other up. Shows that he cares more about his girls safety than the score. I will do the same if it happens to our team.

Do you go to the games? Go pay your 2 dollars and then you can give your opnion. What if it was your child getting slapped in the face or pushed to the floor and they just turn a blind eye and didn't call a foul. Would it make you mad? You get control of the game early and stop all of the nonsense and let the game take care of itself. If they foul call it. I can take no calls on a walk or dbl dribble at that age and the games wouldnt last over on hour.

Grandparents dont know this. They are given a time when the game starts. If it says 2:00 then start the game at 2:00 not 1:40. Thats bull.

Its a crying shame that a coach would have to take his team and ever leave the court just to keep his kids from getting hurt. Why cant something be done and who would you complain to about this.

I agree completely. Our first game started 30 minutes early. The purpose of the PLAYERS getting there 30 minutes before game time is to warm up. They have GAME times for a reason. And yes.... I personally witnessed one ref calling for a time out and the other one trying to "hush" him and signaling to run the clock. I have paid my 2 dollars and our coach tried talking to the ref and the ref shoved a piece of paper in his face and did not want to hear anything he had to say. Now I'm not for whiny crybaby coaches, players, or parents BUT fair is fair. If the "refs" don't want to be there refereeing little kids, then they should go home. Experienced refs know that most k thru 2nd kids are going to stumble, fumble, double dribble, run to the wrong goal, etc.( because they are LEARNING). I'm certain the league could find someone else that's a little more enthusiastic about refereeing little kids.

well fisrt of all ,yeah players do need be there 30 mins ahead of the game, but i realy don't agree with making me as a coach start so early because i may have one of my starters that can't get there everytime ,and this puts my whole team and game plans out of sink. puts me at a disadvange too.yes it's not fair to a parent or granparent or somone that has to leave work and show up at game time. maybe the league shoulsd look into this if it's a growning problem. second of all i have coached and referred before so i can see both sides. in my younger years coaching yeah i'd holler at the ref;s get mad.but i learned it don't matter how much u holler get mad stomp your feet they gonna call it the way they see it and it's not gonna change. only advice i tell you upstart coaches just deal with it adjust your players to how the game is being called not all calls or non calls are right.i'm not apossed to asking what my player did wrong. then i move on. ust me it's not all that easy to call a game and please everyone.like trying to work retail with the public

You may be right the league will fold if Steve doesn't run it because nobody else wants to put in the time or effort in to what it takes to run the league. The coach of the losing team was wrong to handle the situation by throwing at fit because things didn't go his way. Spoiled children act this way! And while were at it, have you volunteer to coach, ref, or help in any way? It is easy to set back and judge about something you know so little about.

Why are the adults who are posting on this site actually going to the Youth League game? Is it to support the young people who are playing or are they there to be malicious and destroy and community program? It reads like these adults are intent on creating drama instead of helping. It is easier to sit in those red, backed chairs and criticize instead of getting involved. If you don't like the coaches, why don't you coach? If you don't like the refs, why don't you ref? If you don't like the president, why don't you take charge of this program. Don't get on Topix with your anonymous complaints if you aren't adult enough to be part of a solution instead of being the problem.

the word Fundamentals needs to be taken out of the slogan . this league is rushed not being called like fundamental basketball should be. this league really needs to be played on a street court if you catch my drift. It is an embarrassment and the wrong place to put your child in if you are wanting them to really learn basketball. winning is not everything but how you lose does matter!

Pretty funny when kids get hurt!!! Shows your class!!!!!! And to talk about a kid no matter who he or she belongs to really makes you an outstanding person! As far as being tough you me or any of us others don't put our names on here I guess we are all weak and cowards!!!!!!!!
No one is making fun of kids getting hurt. We are making fun of grown people acting like spoiled children. There is always a chance in any sport that a child will get hurt even by there own teammate, but to blame the ref's, the other coach, or league is not facing the real problem, your own coaching ability, your own childs ability to handle the game, take responsibilty for your actions and stop blaming others.

Apparently you over looked the post that I was replying to! Pretty sure it was towards the kid getting hurt! No doubt that chance of getting hurt is there in any sport but that chance increases when the officials don't control the game and kids or adults for that matter take actions or intentions of hurting other players! Some of the teams are very well coached and some are taught to attack the ball! When kids are slapping across the face, biting, choking, tripping, pushing, throwing elbows, etc....and there are no calls who do you think the blame should be on? The coach that took a stand wasn't acting out as a spoiled child but as a concerned coach and parent! He along with other coaches and parents had already tried to have the issue dealt with and this was where it led to! Also to judge this coaches ability to coach who are you? This particular team has lost only three times in three seasons if my memory is correct!!! Pretty sure they are teaching their kids how to play the game the correct way! The coach did take responsibility for his actions and sat out the last game even though he was told he could coach and told his team that if you break the rules then you have to face the consequences!

I have been there every Saturday and it is the same parents complaining about everything. The refs I have watched have actually blown their whistle to show the children the correct way to do something. I haven't seen any money being paid to these coaches so why don't some of you complaining get off your butts and give it a try? Better yet try being positive about things around your child and see how much better their actions are! Yes I can name names of those complaining and the rermarks that were said (" Why don't we just pull our kids out of the league) If you think this will solve the problem then why don't you? Quit fighting your kids battle!!!!!
