What does everyone think about parents dropping their kids off at the movies so that they can meet up with their b/f or g/f to see a movie? Alot of the kids are not even 13 yet.

I never have understood the parents who drop off their pre-teens or teens at the movies unsupervised to watch a movie with their boyfriends. My children have reported to me that they have witnessed several of these young couples making out, hands in the pants and much worse. These young couples need to realize that a theater is not as dark as think it is. The parents need to realize that if their pre-teen is engaging in heavy makeouts and hands in the pants at such an early age that they are more than likely going to be fully sexually active before they enter high school. If they are sexually active at such an early age, they are more than likely going to be a teenage parent before they graduate. Parents need to be a little more responsible in letting their pre-teens date at such an early age. The movies is not a place to be dropping your child off unsupervised. I am sure there are many other adults who have witnessed inappropriate behavior by these unsupervised preteens.

So where is the usher with the flashlight when the lights go down?

You really think our craptastic theater has ushers? Or flashlights!? LOL

I'm more bothered by the little A-holes who come in in droves and flap their yaps, get out their cell phones, take pictures (wtf?), and yell out random cuss words, because they think it's cool.

I admit, in 8th grade my mom used to drop me off to see a movie with my friends. Sometimes there were guys too, but no hands in pants.:-) we weren't loud jerks. We weren't obnoxious. We might have left and walked to Los Portales. A few times. Then the ticket lady told my mom and I didn't get to hang out anymore. But gosh, that was years ago. We were young, thought we were cool, but we weren't as bad as these kids now. And the staff does nothing about it! So when we want to see a movie we always go to Martin or Paducah. Haven't been to the Hollywood Slowcase in at least a year.

They're too young to be dropped off at the movies for a "date" when they're under the age of 14. They're also too young to be on social websites, have cell phones, and e-mail addresses without some kind of parental supervision. Some parents give in too easily to all of the above mentioned things and don't check up on them...don't you think that's irresponsible? Have you noticed the number of teenage girls pregnant in this area? Have you seen/heard about these young people taking nude pictures of themselves and sending them out via text/e-mail?If you allow your children to go to the movies, make sure there's an adult present. If you allow your child a cell phone, randomly check it to make sure what's going on. Social websites, don't allow them to have one, unless you have their passwords.

Maybe that's a little off topic, but needed to be said.

Very well said. It is amazing how many of my son's friends, who are young pre-teen girls, have pictures on their myspaces wearing very skimpy bathing suits. Do parents not check their child's myspace account? I have my son't password and check his account quite often. I am surprised at how aggressive some of these young girls are.

Every so often there are pictures that are circulated via cellphone of a young girl either in her underware or topless. These young girls send these pictures to a boyfriend or potential boyfriend. This young man will think that it is funny to forward this picture to all his friends. These young girls do not realize that these inappropriate pictures can keep them from receiving a scholarship or a job sometime in their future. Do parents not realize that they can go to their cellphone provider and get a word for word transcript of all their child's texts. It might be worth a parent's time and money to read what their child is communicating to their friends.

I agree. Parents are way too permissive now days. They are more worried if their child is not popular in school. They are the first to get out the school yearbook and count how many times their child's picture appears. They don't worry about how their child is becoming popular. In the local high schools, popularity is usually related to sex, drinking or drugs. If your child is popular, you need to be worried about what your child is doing in their social life to earn this popularity.

What it boils down to is that if a parent is too lazy to raise their child, then a child is left to raise him/herself. This always results in a child making very poor decisions and terrible consequences such as STDs, pregnancy, drugs, alcoholism and death.

I remember going to the Volunteer Twin Cinema as a kid. You Can't control everything that kids do

You were probably in high school doing these things. It is 11,12 and 13 years olds who are engaging in presex at the movies. They are in heavy make out sessions, hands in pants and on rare occassions there is hand jobs and blow jobs going on. I sincerely doubt that 20 years ago when you were at the Twin Cinema that you were doing that. If you even attempted to do anything lewd or vulgar, you would have been shown the door.

Children in jr. high should not be at the movies unsupervised. They are disrespectful, loud, running around and vulgar. Management should be more aware of what is going on in their theater and stop letting their business be used as a babysitter or a place for preteens to exhibit their hormones.

Yes, you can control what your child is doing at the movies. It is called going to the movies with them and supervising their "pre-teen dates".

If you think about it, why are 11, 12 and 13 year old being aloud to date? Why are they being left unsupervised in a darken theater? This is poor parenting.

If your 11, 12 or 13 year is permitted to engage in heavy make-out sessions, then don't be surprised when your 14,15 or 16 year old child is sexually active and has multiple sex partners before he/she is 18. Also, don't be surprised when your high school child "accidently" becomes a teenage parent while in high school.

Statistics don't lie.

Also, has anyone else noticed how some of these preteens dress to go to the movies. We all know the theater is air conditioned. Is there really a need for the short-shorts and skimpy spaghetti string shirts that they wear? I am surprised at the lack of clothing these young girls are wearing when they step out of their parents' vehicle. You don't see adults wearing skimpy clothes to go to the movies. Again, this is a lack of parenting.

I want to know why these kids are not asked to show I.D. to get a ticket for a PG13 movie? Is it illegal to drop your 13 and under kids off at the theater unsupervised?

I remember several years ago while attending the theater. There was a couple of teens sitting beside me making out. Instead of making a complaint to the manager. I went to the concessions counter and purchased a large cup of ice water. When I returned to my seat. The teens was still groping one another. So after waiting a few minutes I ( accidentally ) spilled the entire cup in the young man's lap. They decided to leave. Best 3 dollars I spent

That is a good idea. All the adults who attend movies and are offended by the "pre-teen porn star wanna bes" should start "accidently" spilling water in the laps of these unsupervised kids.

Maybe, then these kids will get the message that the movies are not the place to exhibit their hormones.

Maybe, when their parents pick them up, the parents will realize that their child was exhibiting inappropriate behavior and was "cooled" down by a person wanting to watch the movie and not be distracted/embarassed by a shameless preteen.

i too remember going to the movies as a teenager with my friends at this age. sometimes with my friends or if i had a boyfriend. yes we were dropped off & sometimes i did kiss my boyfriend & i had good parents. im sure not all these kids are bad but the ones that are doing this stuff, well thats sad. i dont think i even knew what that stuff was at that age. i dont think the guy was being an idiot, i just think he was saying like when we were young we did stupid stuff sometimes, just maybe not that bad & parents dont know everything we do. but i believe kids need to know the consequences that will suffer when they do these things & today kids dont understand or parents arent brave enough to enforce it

I COMPLETELY AGREE! kIDS THESE DAYS ARE BEING GIVEN ANYTHING THEY WANT SO THAT THE PARENT DOESNT HAVE TO BE A PARENT. WHAT HAPPENED TO RESPONSIBILITY! MAKE THE CHILD EARN IT IF HE WANTS IT!! AND AS FAR AS DROPPING OFF THE KIDS AT THE SHOW, THE EMPLOYEES THERE ARE NOT BABYSITTERS, SO THEY NEED TO PUT A SIGN UP, UNDER AGE 14 MUST HAVE ADULT PRESENT!!!

"Think there might be a correlation between this thread and this the one about pregnant girls at OCCHS? "

In the long run, don't you think there ought to be?? I'm not on here to offend anyone, but at least this is a starting point to get parents to wake up and see that their sweet kids, may not always be so sweet and innocent and that they need to check up on their children!
IF these kids are making out in a PUBLIC theater at the age of 11-14, what will they be doing when they're 15 & 16??? When I was that age, I was too afraid of someone telling my parents what I was doing when they saw me out... these kids don't care! I've seen & heard them run out of the theater and Los Portales cussing like sailors, dipping, and making several sexual inuendos.
I would be embarrassed if someone told me that my child was behaving so badly, then I'd beat them within every inch of their life! Most parents chalk it up to "oh they're just being kids and having fun"... Well, those kids are going to be the kids having kids or STDs, and these pretty, young, nieve, girls are going to make a great name for themselves!!

Aren't you a nasty pedophile. We are talking about 11, 12 and 13 year olds. There is nothing to envy about children being too sexually adventurous for their young age.

If you are wishing that you were 11, 12 or 13 years old again so that you could participate in this underage sexual exhibition, then you are a sick creature.(Notice, I did not call you a person or human because you are lacking the decency to be called person or human.)

Shame on you for making a sick joke about a serious problem that is anyone going to the movies can see.
