Marlena Childress

i have a friend who lives on the same street marlena childress lived on when she disappeared. I believe Pam Bailey killed Marlena just for the fact that she stabbed her 12 yr old son. She may have gotten away with being involved in marlena's disappearance but at least she did not get away with stabbing her son. I also heard she is now out of prison. Is that true? I hope not, she does not deserve to be released. Hopefully the inmates whoop her ass & give her a taste of her own medicine.

I played the part of Marlena on Unsolved Mysteries-- i have always kept her in my thoughts. I came across this site and just wanted to say that I think we should all keep our minds open to the possibility that she is still alive-- and to say that I personally thank everyone for remember her.

<quoted text>I remember this also....Although Green Acres is all the way across town from where the house they lived.(The house was/is on Division St)I don't doubt you remember...I lived about a block(Palmer St)from where her house was, matter of fact I could see their back yard from my front porch.Anyway,I remember members of the police dept, fire department, rescue squad and even family members coming to the house and door to door throughout the area searching for the little girl....She was supposedly snatched from her front yard..Her mother later told authorities that she killed the little girl and dumped her body in the Obion River...She later recanted that story..She did attempt to murder a son later in a Kentucky cemetary....There were reported sightings of Marlena in Florida after her story was featured on a National TV show...There was a story in the local paper recently marking the 20th anniversary of her disappearance along with a computer-generated photo of what she would look like today...Her family holds out hope of somehow finding her,but nothing new has surfaced in a good while....
I believe she killed her like she said and her lawyer told her to change the story. if there's not a body, they couldn't charge her with murder

Marlena-what a high profiled case that was. I was a young girl at the time but remember everyone talking about where could this pretty little girl be. It is good that her name is still being discussed. My thoughts and prayers are still with the family, I hope oneday they have the truth.

I used to live in Union City when I was a baby until I turned 8 in the 1980's. We of course lived there during the Marlena disappearance. Marlena and I had similar hair cuts and color of mom said that I would be playing outside in our front yard off of Main St and people would slow down and look at me to see if I was Marlena. Such a sad story in such a small town for back in the 80's. I pray she is at rest or very happy somewhere...

I believe Pam did kill Marlena and did put her into the Obion River. I just pray one day Pam will tell the truth so they can try to find Marlena's remains and take her home to rest. I feel sorry for the father and grandparents. However, I do remember Pam's parents not believing what Pam had said she had done; then recanted. I wonder what they thought after Pam stabbed her son in the cemetery? Judge Lanier should have stayed out of the case, but then look at his character and what he was himself.

Since the day she was missing everytime (even now) I go by the Obion River I catch myself looking around I have always thought she did what she said she did. I believe that baby is gone. I pray that she is safe no matter where she is but it sure would be nice to know what happened. Perhaps it's best that we don't know all the details. All I know is that my prayer is that wherever she is whether it be still alive somewhere or gone to heaven that she is safe and happy.
I did not personally know her but she will always have a special place in my heart.:-) You are missed precious one and loved by people you didn't even know.

The recent news of the young girl abducted from her home 18 years ago and found living in tents in the backyard of her abductors gave me hope that maybe Marlena IS alive somewhere. If she is, I only pray her life has been without inhumane

I pray that this is the case, grandmotherof4. I don't know how anyone can survive the constant uncertainty of not knowing what happened or where their missing loved one is....

Lifetime used to air reruns of unsolved mysteries, but this case never made it on to the channel, along with a handful of others.

Not in a while, at least nothing in the paper. The mother tried to kill her son a few years ago. DCS took over there. I don't remember if she was given any jail time; probably just sent to a mental hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Yes, she was given jail time. Her parents took care of her son and he is now an adult. They should've locked her up back in the 80s. The last I read she was still serving time. Hope she stays there, too. How sad for her parents and her children.

Hey, "D",
You may or may not remember me. I lived in the duplex across the street from you guys on N Division. My name is Ellen. I lived with my grandmother. I moved away a couple of years after Marlena disappeared, but returned about 15 years ago. I haven't left since. I am so glad to hear the you & Jarad are doing okay. As much as I keep up with Marlena's story, I haven't heard much about you two. I've often wondered how you are. Don't ever think that your family's story will be forgotten. The whole episode will live in my mind forever. Even for those of us connected to the story only through friendship, it is hard to read the opinions posted here. Don't let any of it get to you. Good luck. It's great to hear from you.
I do remember you! Wow! Good to hear from you. Yeah its some crazy stuff but it was so long ago yet something you never forget. Its hard to believe it all still yet unfortunately life is full of things that are unexpected and unfortunate.

I also lived in UC, I worked at brown shoe at the
I remember going home for lunch and passing Marlena's house and her setting on her porch with her little doll in her arms.
I searched along with everyone else in trying to find her.
And even now all these years later, i still remember her.
So Casey, if you do read any of this, understand we are here because we still care about Marlena.
And i hope someday it will make you feel better knowing so many people still remember your sister and have never given up on her or her memory.
I know i never will.

Talking about living not far away from the scene: I lived two houses down on division street from that house. My sister and "D" (Marlena's sister) were good friends. "D" and Marlena would come over occasionally. And if that is really you, Casey, you came to one of my birthday parties and stole some of my money!!!:) I have pictures to prove it! It was a tragedy. And very scary. Marlena and I were about the same age. I remember Marlena as being a very shy girl. My heart goes out to her two siblings (i believe they were half siblings??). I can remember being so scared to even go outside. I thought for sure i was next. Every time a car would go by, I would run inside. I remember the day that unsolved mysteries came to town. They asked a few questions, and then left. I remember all of the rumors. My memory gets foggy after the event; I was only about 6 yrs old. I don;t remember when they moved. I still think about it to this day, and hope that her sibilings have tried to maintain a normal life though this shrowd of mystery continues to follow them. It has affected my life in many ways, and I cannot imagine what this event has done to them.
