So, does anyone know anything about the stuff going on in town lately? For instance, I see there is a lot of things being done at the Mexican grocery Store. Of course you have to see it from the back side. But there have been a lot of UC business owners/employess coming and going (electricians, lumber, supplies...ect). Now, I dont know a whole lot about commercial buildings, but is it even legal to put that many rooms in that buidling? I sure dont' see any permits in the grocery window or anything like that! If I was a guessing man, i would say he is paying some of these people cash to do the job and then once it's done he will house illegals. Because from what I understand he's the one they go to, to cash their checks since they don't have an form of US ID. Is there a way to stop some of this? I have no problem with anyone living in our town, but they should have to pay taxes and everything else US residents have to do. I just think we should be cleaning up our town, not providing more room for this kind of stuff.

Concerned resident, I agree 100%. We should be trying to make this town, a town, where people want to actually move to. Not just for the hud housing. I would think the city government would worry about stuff like that instead of all the other stuff they are worrying about right now.

I completely agree with you "just wondering". This town could be just as good as any other towne. But like you said most people that move here it's becuase of the HUD housing. Don't get me wrong, I completely have no problem with people being on the system that NEED HELP. But let's face it, there are ALOT of people in UC that are abusing the system. I sure don't see the Housing Authority doing anything about that. There's nothing more irritating than to get up every morning day after day and work your a** off for what you want to have in life and then to turn around and see someone that is getting assistance driving a car just as nice as yours or wearing name brand clothes. Heck I could have twice the things, if I didn't have a house payment. But like I said, "THOSE THAT NEED IT", SHOULD GET IT. It's all the other people that get it and shouldn't.

I agree with you Working Mother. I've seen so many Rockefeller's on welfare it's just crazy. I've seen several welfare recipients that have newer vehicles and dress in name brand clothes. I also understand you can get these clothes at re-sale shops. I'm rarely able to shop at the mall, but have witnessed on one of those occasions someone I know for a fact is on welfare and gets housing assistance spending $120 on a pair of shoes as well as purchasing several other expensive items. My spouse and I both work but can't really afford to spend that kind of money on just one item if we want to make sure all of the bills get paid. I can understand if it's needed, but then a lot of the time the people that really need it are refused. It's just sad that hard working families that pay taxes can't get assistance when they need it, but others can and do abuse it.

I saw the construction but didn't know what was going on. Maybe someone should voice their concerns to the city council.
I for one am not prejudice. But illegals (of any nationality) who enter our country illegally are breaking the law and should not be given assistance to stay. Anyone who helps these illegals in my opinion is also providing criminal assistance. I know people who live and work in this community who are from Canada. They work with a visa and have to re-apply annually. They are not here living on welfare. They contribute and support their families. So why do the other immigrants who are coming here illegally think they are exempt from following the same legal channels? Our system is guilty of promoting this kind of crime...and it is a crime against taxpayers. Providing tax dollars to feed and support people who do not pay taxes and are here illegally is breaking our welfare system. WE are paying these people to out populate us. This is a travesty. The system needs to change. What would happen to us if we went to Mexico illegally? Are they going to feed and support us? Please do not repy to this if you are going to accuse me of being "racist". This is cold hard facts and whether these people are from Mexico, Russia, Poland or Far-off-istan. They are breaking the law...period! |

I am just wondering if the Mexican Store is going to allow their tenants, and I am going to go out on a limb and say there will be alot of them, if they are going to allow them to stand outside their store and harass the high school girls that go up to sandy's to dance class. Because I know for a fact it already happens right now. Plus everyone is forgetting about the problem we have in this town with underage girls going out with 20-25 year old mexican guys. It may be alright in their country but I believe it is still against the law in this one. I would really like to see the numbers on how many underage girls in this town have given birth to children of mexican decent and how old the fathers were when conceived. Which we could never really know but I am sure there are alot.
Changing subjects, but sticking with the same people involved, whatever happened with the Mexican Store selling alcohol without a permit and also selling to underage people. I know for a fact that they were busted by the excise police. Doesn't that count for the integrity of these people? I don't know, maybe I am paranoid or something. But this has been a growing problem in the town for the last 5-6 years. Hell who am I kidding for the last 15 years. It is time for people to start to speak out about these and other problems in this town. And I mean real problems about the town not the people in this town. |

They are re-modeling there kitchen and (heresay) putting in a small area to dine in. They have good food. As far as illegals, do u think they are the only business that has them? Go to your town council meetings and voice your opinions.

I spoke with one of the business owners who have a store on the block. They said they were told they are puting in a couple of apartments.
As for "illegals": do you think that because other business have them working then its okay for them to have them too?(Thats like saying, if my neighbor is doing drugs and getting away with it then I am going to do it too) Thats the kind of thinking that got this city in this mess. It is illegal no matter how ya cut it. They busted a huge construction business in Cincinnati for hiring illegals. They shut him down. Maybe its time for alot of people to take notice that "its against the law". |

I am not sure what is going on with the mexican grocery so I am not going to make ANY assumptions.
One of the problems with this town is there are ALOT of NOSEY people in it. The OP (opening Poster) of this topic is just an example of the noeyness of this community. And you can call it curiosity all you want, but the fact is if you people would worry about what is going on in your OWN backyard & not what you think may be going on in someone else's then this town might be a friendlier place to live in. With that being said, yes we do have a problem with illegals in our town. But until someone with authority chooses to do something about it then we will just have to live with it. This is a problem that is going on in our country, not just our town. As for welfare assistance, there are people of all nationalities within our community abusing the system. It is just sickening. All I can say is, if you know of someone abusing the system TURN THEM IN!!!!!!!! |

I agree there are alot of nosey people here. Its part of living in a small town. I lived in Indy for a while and there you don't know who is honest and who isn't. I prefer the small town. At least I know who to be wary of.
I don't consider it being nosey when someone is breaking the law. Its being American. |
|
But until you KNOW that the law is being broken, then you should leave it be & stop assuming. That is the point I was trying to get across. |
|
|
Well ucmom it is pretty easy to see that the law is being broken when 13-14 yr old girls are walking around our town pregnant or with babies and there are 25 yr old mexican right by their side. And if you have not saw this you are blind as a bat. It is a huge problem that we the taxpayers are paying for.
|
|
As I stated before until someone with the authority decides to do something about it, you are just gonna have to suck it up & deal with it. Maybe if the parents of these young girls were more responsible then their kids would not end up pregnant in the first place. These girls should have been taught better. |

I agree that the problem starts at home. But we are forgetting the children who are the product of a relationship with an illegal alien who has no SS#. No way for the girl or the family of the girl to make the individual responsible for the child that is innocent in all of this. No way to collect child support etc...This is a burden on the welfare system, our educational institutions, as well as a crime against a minor. Sucking it up is not going to address this issue. If the businesses who employe these illegals were not doing so, then there would be less illegals in this district. That's not to say that these minors would not be getting pregnant.
But at least the fathers of these children would be traceable and the county and families can try to make them accountable. I know this because I worked in healthcare for 5 years. This situation is a growing concern in communities where this is a problem. I could post about the other problems I have seen as a result of this, such as abuse, but I am not going to open that can of worms here. Just suffice to say that this is a problem that is going to reach mega proportions if something isn't done. It has to start at the federal level in our government but if our county and state governments don't complain its going to continue to be an issue. |
|
Believe me I understand here you are coming from. This situation upsets me too. But again,Til someone with the authority to do something about this actually does something, then what can we really do about it? You could go to the city council & complain, but I doubt that they have a solution. |

It always amazes me how if you state a different view or opinion on this message board you end up with a choice few that like to try & bash you & put words in your mouth.LOL..... I stand behind every word I have posted & if you don't like what I have had to say, then fine.Ignore my posts. And yes the OP is nosey cause they have been watching the comings & goings at the Mexican Grocery. It's not my fault that you have a problem with reading comprehension. |
