I went up to eat at the Sweet Shop this morning and it was closed. So, I went to Ds and people said that they closed for good. How sad that this economy has contributed to this. Another building empty in UC.

First of all you needed to use the word their instead of there and until is with one L not two! Secondly, don't say you heard because apparently your one of the disgruntled (I know this is a very big word)employees that made this post. No wonder you served me my food!! Don't worry, I'll work over time to pay Uncle Sam so that you can get an increase in your welfare benefits! I have another idea, just have another kid!!

Well for your FYI, I DID NOT WORK there. I am not one of those DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEES as you call it. An I am too OLd to have KIDS. But my CP has a mind of it's own when it comes to typing.

To Should say
It is really depressing that another business has closed. More empty buildings. We liked their food and most of the waitress were really nice. There are very few jobs in UC. I feel bad for these girls because they should have been given notice so they could have been looking for other jobs. That would have been the decent thing to do. But the owners obviously did not appreciate the years of service their employees gave them.

That is my mom that you are talking about! Just for your information she has two bad hips and slipped disks that are herniated in her back. Last year she had her right hip replaced but she wasn't able to get back to where she needed to be and now the left one needs replaced.
As for the employees, I feel sorry that they lost their jobs. Unfortunately, times are rough for many people but they knew that her health was not the best and that her sales were declining. Yes, it was abrupt but so was the decline in my mothers health. She has no control over the economy and now she also has no income but nobody feels sorry for her, just the employees! I suggest that you know all the facts about my mother before you go calling her a fat cow that sat on her fat ass. Did you not see the walker that she always used? What a jerk! Now, since I've posted my name everyone can start slandering me too, I know it will happen.

dusty, personal attacks against your mom is as I said uncalled for. But I do feel bad for the employees. Also, a store doesn't just up and close suddenly and many knew for quite a while that she was plannin closing but didn't tell the employees. Its too bad, but this is the way alot of employers treat their people.

If the Sweet Shoppe is for sale, that would be a great opportunity for someone. It has a lot of history for Union City, but it takes a business person to make it go, someone who knows how to manage and make it successful again. It was always a great place to eat. Dusty, I feel for your mom. People are cruel; some people will say anything, but you just have to remember some people don't have the mental capacity to be nice. Will she reopen?

Thank you! No, my mom is not reopening and she has had a person call her already about possibly purchasing. I really hate to see the building sit too. This town doesn't need any more closed businesses.

The Sweet Shop stunk to high heavens anyway. This town needs a real restaurant not another greasy spoon. People around here have the culinary pallet of a dung beetle.

I WORKED THERE FOR MANY YEARS. THERE WAS 3 DIFFERENT OWNERS. I DIDNT GET TO WORK FOR JIM & STELLA BUT I GOT TO KNOW THEM. I ENJOYED WORKING FOR THEM ALL! THEY WERE GREAT PEOPLE! THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND I ENJOYED WORKING WITH MY CO-WORKERS AS WELL. IT'S A SHAME THAT IT HAD TO CLOSE BUT I UNDERSTAND THE REASONS BEHIND IT. THERE IS ALOT OF MEMORIES IN THAT BUILDING. THE SWEET SHOPPE WILL BE SADLY MISSED. IT WAS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE YEARS & MEMORIES!!!

Don't bash the Sweet Shop!! Their food was not bad. They had the best egg, cheese, and bacon muffin around. I have eaten in a lot of restaurants around the country, and their breakfasts could compete with the best. I live in Union City and don't put me in the category of having the culinary pallet of a dung beetle!
