I have lived in Union City for four years. I am a black, single parent of two teen age girls, and I am afraid. My daughter is scheduled to go to James Logan High next year, but she is terrified and I don't blame her. I will move from this city before I let her attend a school with so much violence. What are the city officals & police doing to protect our children. Its senseless.Union City has the potential to be a wonderful place to live. How can they let the violence control the city?

So far the only violence I have read about that occurs has been between males of different races. Since you have two teenage girls I don't think your daughters have to worry that they will be harmed.

What an uninformed comment uclocal. Everyone has to worry about being harmed by ignorant people carrying guns around, even you. Once the gun is fired, EVERYONE IS IN HARMS WAY. Did you read about the 10 yr old little boy in Oakland taking piano lessons? The bullet penetrated a building and a piano before entering his body. He is lucky to be alive. I agree Jane Doe. I want to know what EVERYONE is doing to stop the violence.

Use your brain. The shooter wasn't targeting to shoot everyone there. There were many witnesses present, a teacher and students when the shooting at the school occurred but the gun man wasn't randomly shooting at everyone so everyone was not in harms way. The shooter had a target to shoot only those whom were involved in the argument and those are the ones he aimed at.

I've lived in Union City now for 15 years and I had two daughters graduate from James Logan High School. I have a third daughter who is currently a Freshman there. My older daughters say its the same since they were in school, same threats, etc. Personally I think it's worse. Especially with the two recent shootings, which by the way, were not actually on high school property. James Logan is an excellent school and I know they are doing the best they can to keep the school/students safe. Let's just hope it's enough! As a parent, I try to educate my daughter in being smart and making the right choices on where she goes and who she associates herself with, etc. Yes it's scary, but isn't there some risk no matter where you go??

It's sad. My friend from james logan high school was shot the day after his graduation. Gangs have just increased and too many teenagers getting involved, especially in Union City.

James Logan High School has many new rules put in place to prevent such incidences from happening again.

Yes that is true, crime does happen everywhere. It is sad but there is not much we can really do but to get involve into the lives of young ones. Teach them what is right and wrong. It is not really that hard to do. It is up to the adults to teach kids, especially teenagers how to manage their behaviors. It is up to individuals how they want to live their lives, but all i know is that I am doing the best i can to live a happy life. I am pretty sure that is what we all want.

i just recently had to move to hayward but i lived in Union city or decoto as i know it for over 50 yrs.. i would give anything to move back. violence is everywhere, we just have to help guide our children in the right direction and be vigilante of what is happening. dont be afraid to speak out, but with that don't sit back and do nothing and thinks others have to do the work.. it takes all of us to change what is happening in the world and our children learn from us, so if we hate then we are just showing them it is ok to do what they are doing.. Union city is a good place and can still be that way if more of us showed that we care.

this is how I see it, anywhere you live as long as you mind your own business, dont go around thinking your better then anyone else, dont point fingers at any one let everyone just live thier lives the way they want. and its not hurting you in any way,Its all good always beaware of your surroundings, keep to your self maybe a hello how are you or a wave every now and then you will be alright and noones going to bother you.And thats for anywhere you live, I know this for fact even if there are some kids on the block that tend to get into some trouble they always seem to have your back , you would be surprised, your living surroundings are what you make them. The fact is...a life has been taken. A family has lost their son, brother and friend. Senseless!! Who does that? Who thinks they have the right to take a life?! The persons responsible for this will not meet their maker but burn eternally in HELL!
