Why is there a belief that people with drug and alcohol problems should somehow not be responsible for their actions.

just another "young adult" to lazy to work and looking for easy cash. Lets blame the world for the problem and not take blame for my own actions. Ya,its everyone else fault the that he does drugs, drinks boose and smokes cigarettes. cant be his choices. people live like they do as a choice

Who cares where he lives!!! The fact remains, this poor woman was attacked...'she' is the victim...not the town. I think this guy should get put away for the full sentence, he obviously needs substance abuse help, so lock him up for 15 years...so he can get straight. His Mother admitted he's put himself into rehab a few different times...apparently..it didn't work. Robert & NH Hunter...I'm thinking no matter what state you are in...there is still crime, unfortunately. Robert...too bad mouth all those streets you did...keep in mind, those still hold 'homes' for alot of good people and innocent children. It's Thanksgiving....be thankful, you have a roof & food...no matter where you sit to 'complain'. Let's all say a silent prayer for this poor woman who has a lifetime memory of that fateful night.

Now I know why I stay away from Flat St. at night. Years and years ago, I walked it late at night all the time. Back then, the town was full of alcoholics and marijuana users, but they didn't seem anyone to be afraid of. There wasn't much hard drug use yet.

Don't worry, I'm sure our great judicial system will put him in front of some reparative board so he can say how sorry he was, then put him out on parole in our community so he can slip back into his regular ways. Then they'll tell his parole officer he can't lock him back up for a parole violation unless its a "significant" violation of his parole. Vermont seems to be a great state to be a criminal in.

Another parent living the Land of Denial! Your precious "good boy" attacked a decent kind woman for the sole purpose of STEALING FROM HER because he is of this lazy generation whose parents allow them to get away with everything. I know this guy whose 28 yr old son just violated his probation for selling heroin and this kid is a total loser, living off his disabled father, even when he did work, he never gave a dime to this man that I know if and his stupid mother would even do his LAUNDRY AND GROCERY SHOPPING every week, he had not a care in the world and I am betting Daddy or Mommy re-financed their homes to try to get him out of the charges, but as I have written, he violated the gift he was given and this is due in part to clueless parents who think if they punish the kid, he will tell someone and here comes CPS and maybe if they made this loser kid leave home at 21 and make him man up and get a job, maybe he might not have started doing drugs as there was a time this kid hated alcohol so I don't know what went wrong, but now he sits in the hotel gray bar and it is his own fault just like this loser here! And here sits his Mommy, clearly in denial trying to spin he is a GOOD BOY? And I am so tired of people blaming their addictions, the ones they CHOSE TO HAVE on their actions, "OH Gee Your Honor, he only robbed the store because he is an addict" OH Gee, Your Honor, he only crashed his car into a family of 5 killing all of them because he has an alcohol "problem"???? "He did not mean to hurt the lady, he just wanted her wallet"??? But I am betting he won't serve half of this lame sentence anyway, after all this is VT who 9 chances out of 10 will release a dangerous sexual predator after some Birkenstocked idiot therapist insists that he is "CURED" and with in days, is raping another child? Michael Jacques ring a bell VT P&P???

CPS goes after good parents sometimes, thus almost all parents become scared and let the discipline go. I had a teen that I had to stop disciplining because of CPS coming after me. Sure enough, that that formerly good teen stopped respecting his parents and their values and soon started using drugs. I know we need CPS or some system to stop genuine child abuse, but I wish they would stop wasting time intimidating good parents. I don't know all of the reasons why young people choose to do drugs, but authority figures teaching them NOT to respect their parents and to think that every disciplinary measure is abuse may be helping to fuel the drug epidemic.
