U.S. uses patience in pirate standoff

As U.S. Navy warships surrounded the lifeboat where four pirates held an American sea captain hostage Friday, defense officials and analysts said the most likely military option for ending the standoff would not involve significant use of naval firepower. Full Story

We should get rid of the boats that they have. Bomb them get rid of them. We should be able to get rid of their small boats. This is totally uncalled for.

We should not hurt the pirates. These are poor people. And, most of them are Muslim. President Obama has told us that he supports Muslim people. We need to pay the ransom from the US government. They just need to print more money off.

Hello- I am Noharmed, Mohamed is my younger brother.
Please ignore him as he is addled. He was kicked by a camel when young and now he babbles on about printing money. We found him printing money out of toilet paper just yesterday. He can't work so he thinks money is just
printed. We all know this is addled thinking.

I think America is being very prudent. They are doing a great job in this instance. Certainly, Hillary Clinton is helping also.

America stands for religious freedom so please take your unpatriotic ideas, along with the rest of the your government hating Republican friends and leave immediately.
I would suggest one of the many offshore tax havens that have been set up to fleece the country from it's financal obligations. Bye, bye!

May as well just hire a lawyer to represent the Somali fishermen. At US government expense of course. Then the lawyer can negotiate the proper terms to make sure we don't violate their rights, and that they are in no way harmed. The person can then facilitate the financial transaction and assure our Muslim friends that all is well and the US has no ill feelings or intends no hostility nor retribution toward the peaceful religion of Islam.

Hope and change. I "hope" you are all happy with the "change" you elected. I am sure Jimmy Carter is proud.

The story of Somali fishermen turned pirates sounds somehow hollow. It is much easier, more exiting and certainly more profitable to engage in piracy. Poor Somalis suddenly become rich pirates, outlaws and respected members in their "poor" community. Yet, in this case, the US should make it clear that if the captain is harmed in any way, the gloves are off. The pirates, their infrastructure and their bases are fair game.

obama , the coward in chief policy is to place give peace a chance bumper stickers on all ships in the gulf.
He then will apologize for being americans and pay them ransoms in exchange for saying nice things about him. Kim Jong laughed at him as well as the leader of Iran.

This incident reminds me of when Jimmy Carter was fishing in a stream in Georgia and a rabbit tried to hijack his boat. Remember that? The attack of the killer rabbit. Well, ol Jimmy didn't know what to do.

Should he kill the rabbit and risk the wrath of the animal lovers?

Should he fight off the rabbit's attempts to hijack the boat, risking that the rabbit might drown in the process?

Should he let the rabbit into the boat and admit he was overpowered by a rabbit?

Ultimately, he ignored the rabbit and it swam away, much to the relief of his adoring press.
