Simple solution to this nonsense. Just have our muslim president ask his muslim friends to release the Captian in the interest of islam.

A gun was fired, they don't know wheather it was fired at the captain. Please get your story straight before posting an article.
The US must definetely act and bring an end to this situation before the other four foreign vessels that had been hijacked by the pirates arrive by the life boat. Once they are re-supplied and are able to bring the American into Somalia, this becomes a very bad situation for us; much worse that it presently is. I hope Obama makes the right decision. He must instruct the military to attack and try to get the Captain back. Unfortunately, most likely, the Captain would not survive this but is it asolutely paramount that this attempted is made by the US prior to pirate re-enforecement arriving at the scene. Yes, President Obama, a leader sometimes has to make difficult decisions with potentially terrible consequences.

What's with the total lack of "pirate diplomacy?"
The Dems want to:
(1) Hold Congressional hearings
(2) Seek UN sanctions
(3) Understand those impoverished only seek to better themselves through entrepreneurial ventures

We need the likes of Barry Goldwater, now, more than ever!

The pirates are out of gas, surrounded, out gunned, outnumbered, and cannot get away.
obama doesn't know what to do!
Similar to obama's empty threat to North Korea if they launched that missile last week. The Koreans fired the missile and obama did nothing.
Similar to Red China's illegal harassment of a U.S. Navy ship last month. obama did nothing.
Drag obama out from under his bed. Calm down his frazzled nerves and make him stop wetting his pants.
Take a cue from George Bush and show some courage. obama the coward is a huge disappointment. No wonder Castro and Chavez like obama. He's a pushover!

Don't forget the apology for causing the pirates' feelings to be hurt.

Obama better handle this well or it could be his " Blackhawk Down " moment.Or Waco redo.

It's time for him to collect the international Goodwill capital he campaigned about and reportedly accumulated on his recent trip.

Come on, give the brother a break. He's got more important things to do than worry about a little pirate issue. He's more concerned about the housing issue right now instead of something that needs immediate attention. If he gives the order to smoke em, then he has to deal with the fall out from the muslim crowd, if he sits on his hands then he's fulfilling the biden quaff about obamma facing a crises and not doing anything about it. Maybe we need more war ships in the area, then the somalians can laugh at the great Untied States, about how we need to send a whole fleet of ships after a rag tag band of "criminals". Smile America, and enjoy the great community organizer at his best.

I can't believe this is still going on? The US should just wire then the ransom money, get back the captain, than blow them all away. Huessien is handling this terrorist threat just brilliantly.

I agree totally. Time to get out the UAV squadron etc., and start wiping out this trash before they start dragging us around in the streets like the Blackhawk down situation.

Just the term "Pirates" in the 21st century, scares me silly. Where's all these highly trained Navy Seals at? Proving once again, building nuclear weapons and having the biggest stockpile, doesn't solve anything. Our country can't even deal with a group of men in a lifeboat. My thoughts and prayers are with the captain and his family. I hope he gets out alive. Why don't they just hire a bunch of scuba divers to swim under the boat and overturn it in the middle of the night? Tear gas or tranquilize the pirates, or shoot them. Free that captain!

You don't understand. As I am writing this the pirates are sending four foreign vessels that had been captured previously toward the lifeboat. There are a total of 54 hostages on two of the ships from various countries. Once they get there, it will become increasingly difficult to deal with the situation. First, because of even more hostages who could get killed, second, because of more pirates with more guns. It's not like the US gives them the money and they will let the guy go; don't be naive. The plan is to bring him to Somalia and then try finding him again. If you think the situation is bad now, you would not believe how bad it could get.
I feel very bad for the family of Capt. Richard Phillips. I hope he can come home to them. Once this incident is resolved, and it really needs to be resolved now, this pirate situation needs to be addressed in a very serious way by the US.

We could always print up some stimulus money for them, use poison ink and have BO deliver it to them personally.

This "Pirate" story is getting less believable by the minute.

Experienced readers should have their doubts as to the truthfullness of this story; it all sounds fabricated.

You could replace the word 'pirate' with the word 'terrorist'; they are the same. It's all part of the 'War on Terror'.

Why don't you ask the Germans, maybe you'll believe them? The pirates/terrorists currently have several German hostages together with Russian, Fillipino, and others. The French just had one of their hostages killed in a most recent battle with them. Don't listen to the propaganda your government feeds you.

Yeah, that Blackhawk situation was very bad. I guess Clinton was too busy screwing his aids instead of supportig our military.
