barack dont know what to do, so maybe we should just have michelle bake a pie or some cookies for the pirates and show them we wanna play nice, and the fbi can keep flying overhead with their spy plane just to make sure....

....that or we could send a couple guys in there to finish the job, but that might actually be a show of force or aggression, and we wouldnt want to be that way now. for some reason someone has it in our (U.S.) future to be the skinny, zit faced kid on the playground gettin his @$$ handed to him.

Maybe our new friend Fidle Castro can help us with this?

Seriously, I am surprised that we haven't heard anything from the White House on this. The first American vessel boarded by pirates in 200 years and an American civilian floating on a boat in the Indian Ocean and the press secretary can't even issue a blanket "we're looking at all our options" statement?

I do pray for the brave soul who traded places in exchange for his crew. What a selfless act and I hope he is returned safely. Then feel free to strafe the pirates. No more of this, "How many millions do you want for our captain? 10? Okay, we're on it!" BS. Send a message already.

Resolution through dialogue, what a bunch of crap.

They're common criminals, blow the crap out of them wherever they are.

The only negotiations should be at the end of .50 or .308.

Is anyone else TIRED of seeing the US getting pushed around? "Change" certainly has arrived, hasn't it? And NOT in a positive way.

I volunteer to operate the mini gun. Plus provide me with at least 50,000 rounds minimum, incendiary preferably. I think I would tend to hold down the little red button for awhile.

Maybe I was wrong with the suggestion of a few MOAB's to show some strength.

How about some tactical nukes into Somalia?

I can't believe we are pussyfooting around with an American being held hostage by pirates. Isn't this the whole reason we formed the Navy?

This is a disgrace to our country and to our flag, our citizens.

Actually, I believe the Marines were formed for the purpose of fighting pirates. The term Leatherneck comes from having to wear a leather strap around their neck to prevent decapitation from sabres, sables etc...I could be wrong, maybe some of the Marines on here can confirm or correct me?

Either way, someone, something with a US Flag should be there, pulling our citizen to safety and then opening fire. It's insulting to think that we are sitting around mulling our options due to a bunch of guys sitting in fishing boat.

You know, I was thinking that, but then I thought, no, it was the Navy.

Sometimes I'm a dumb ass, just have to remember their hymn.

"...to the shores of Tripoli..." Not a dumb a$$ at all. I just happened to see that on TV last night :) Otherwise, I would have agreed on the Navy, LOL

It's not a strap, it's a collar. And yes it was worn for two reasons, to protect the neck from cutlass slashes and to hold the head erect for proper military bearing. Today it's made from fabric sewn inside the collar, but it's just as stiff...

You can all now go back to talking about .50's, and mini-guns, and Air-fuel vapor bombs, and all the other things you've seen on T.V.

I agree with you guys. I amazed that our dear president has refused to release a statement. Even if it was just a "I'm deeply concerned and am looking at every available option to make sure this man returns to his family safely and nothing like this ever happens again."

Maybe his teleprompter's in the shop?

So if someone wants your purse\wallet\car you're going to hand it over? Not one bit of fight? Offer to clean out your bank account and give it all to them?

Wife or child in danger, you're just going to sit on your butt and do nothing?

At it's inception, the primary mission of Marine Corps was to sieze and hold advanced Naval stations and also to provide security onboard Naval vessels. While we have fought priates in the past, most notably on the Barbary Coast, there is no specific mission statement centered around killing pirates...We hold no favorites, we'll kill anybody.

Establish 'safe corridors' of passage for commercial vessels. Monitor those quadrants by satellite and with a picket-line of the occasional Destroyer. Notify any Cruise ship of impending danger so they can prepare to repel boarders with thier own armed private security forces. We have better things to do with SEAL Team6 than running around saving tourists.

If you know where pirates' bases of operation are then great, thump them; but you don't know. So as an alternative, you's hose the entire country of Somolia? Jesus, don't you think those poor bas tards have been through enough?

Nice straw-dog argument there.
