I was a resident of The Palace Hotel from December 1976 to September 1977. It was my first apartment after leaving my parent's home at age 18. Even though it's a hotel there were a few apartments there. They just connected two rooms and converted one of the bathrooms to a kitchen. It was small but cozy. I think my rent was $140 per month. I don't remember my apartment number but it was on the fourth floor.
I liked living there. I worked at The Mendocino County Library and the Palace Hotel was close enough so I could go home for lunch. It was always clean and quiet and the people who worked there were always courteous and friendly. There was maid service twice a week and I always left her a three dollar tip. It just too bad they let the place go to hell like that.
