A marijuana raid by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) took place last week at Potter Valley property associated with relatives of a sheriff's captain, Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman confirmed Wednesday morning.
No arrests were made, according to DEA spokeswoman Casey Rettig.
Allman said he hadn't received information about the raid from the DEA, and had no reason to believe Capt. Randy Johnson was implicated.
"We will do an internal affairs investigation, but it will be done by an outside agency," Allman said, adding that he doesn't yet know which agency will do the investigation. "No federal agency has given me any information that our employee was involved."
Rettig confirmed Wednesday only that the agency served a search warrant in the area of Highway 20 in Potter Valley. The case remains under federal seal while the investigation continues.
Johnson supervised the sheriff's medical marijuana garden inspection program for local collectives that wanted to grow up to 99 plants, an exemption from the county's 25-plants-per-parcel limit, and get zip ties to show they were growing the plants according to county and state law.
The program was disbanded earlier this year after U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag met with county officials Jan. 3 and threatened to file an injunction against Mendocino County's cultivation ordinance, and legal action against county officials who supported it.
THE MCSO (SHERIFF) IS CORRUPT. He got elected by patronizing pot growers. He spent much county resources teaching dope growers how to grow without being prosecuted. He is guilty of conspiracy to manufacture/distribute dope under the Federal RICO statutes, evidenced by this dope grower training, and the zip-tie program of his own make.
FEDS.... come on in to Mendocino County! Take our Sheriff... please. Put him in handcuffs, leg restraints and a fat orange jumpsuit, and make him do the perp waddle to a dank cell. Please investigate ALL County employees, starting with the Supervisors, on down to the judges. You will find many line their retirement accounts with drug money.
Mendocino County has turned into a toilet, and it's overflowing with turds just aching to be flushed.
