An old lady in downtown Covelo must go with out water in her home as she can not afford to drill a deeper well and is surrounded by dope growers and drug dealers. No help from the county we might add. people like Nancy should be airlifted off the planet.

It really isn't a matter of skin color more than social dynamics but I know what you mean and I agree with you. The whole skin color thing comes from the government if you really look at history.
You made some pretty bold statements in your original post that a lot of Natives would take offense to such as, "Dont give me this garbage of we robbed their land from them - get over it already - besides giving them free housing, medical care, dental care, and allowing them to have casinos on their land TAX FREE I think is more than enough to make up for the loss of "their" land."
That's a very non caring, non understanding way to get your point across.
Our land was robbed, that's not garbage and how long would it take you to 'get over' having your entire world destroyed? Who puts the time limit on healing? Why SHOULD we get over it? Because Non Natives say so? Because they don't understand? Do the Jewish still suffer the consequences of their genocide? Should they get over what Hitler did?How about other cultures that suffered so called manifest destiny?
Who says the housing that tribes receive is free? Medical/dental care? Natives don't get free care… underprivileged people get Medical, it is not solely for Indians and besides, most tribal groups supply that on their own. "their" land as you say? Well it wasn't the land of those who took it. All these 'provisions' that you think are "more than enough to make up for what happened" came at the ultimate cost of a nation of people, families of innocents. Tribal lands are sovereign, U.S. government dictating taxes and other restrictions on sovereign land is no different than trying to force US policy in a foreign country. You may disagree with this but it does not change the fact that it is true. It is this kind of thinking that I take issue with and what prompted my 1st post. It's a very one sided approach to the subject.
Now on your other points about not dwelling on the past, taking opportunities, working hard regardless of your ethnicity. I agree 100% and as I mentioned I know that many Native people are just as guilty as being as one sided as your original post. As I said there are many truths to both sides of this issue. It IS time that Natives step up and start moving forward without forgetting the past and in fact it is happening, albeit at a very slow pace but again, who puts the time limit on such issues? You? me?
Thanks for the conversation.
Oh and thanks for the kudos!
I dont think anyone should forget their history. I think they should stop using it as an excuse to not do anything with their lives now. How ashamed would their ancestors be if they saw what they have died for? I dont see Jewish people getting anything for free or using their past as an excuse, I dont see the Chinese getting anything for free or using their past, I dont see women getting anything for free or using their past as an excuse. There are plenty of races who still have their history and culture and dont use that history as an excuse for the cards they were dealt.

I choose not to forget the past. I am a California Indian first and American 2nd.Your original statement was very ignorant and most racist. Recalling the horrors of not so a distance past made me strive to excell in sports and later in scholastics to prove I was
as equal as the dominant race of whites at the time. Unfortunately a lot of my Indian brothers and sisters don't have the same opportunity as I did. And I do feel compassion for them. It hurts my heart and spirit to see them without hope.
Unless you have walked a mile in our moccasins you don't have the faintest clue what you are talking about.
See and you continue to segregate yourself by putting a label on yourself. I grew up in a poor family and I put myself through school. NOTHING was ever handed to me because of the color of my skin, if anything I have been frowned upon because I am proud to be white. Example, 6th grade everyone who was "of color" was wearing shirts that said "Brown Pride" so I put on my shirt "White Pride" just the same as theirs. Who got sent home for being racist?- Yes the white girl did. Do you know why? Because only white people are considered racist. I am not a racist just because I think people should be held accountable for what they do and not because their ancestors had a hard life. I dont see the Irish, Chinese, Jewish people using what happened to them in the past as an excuse for how they behave now.

and my reply to you would be, why does everything have to end with the pot industry?? yes, your right, this is about meth, and the elderly indian woman that thankfully got caught dealing meth. i have quite a few relatives in another county that are meth heads and have been for years. there not into pot, just meth! so you stereotyping people that choose to smoke marijuana for whatever reason is very wrong of you. i have never in my life done meth, and never will. i too have seen the destruction this causes to families firsthand and will never have a part in that.the native americans are always saying their not treated fairly. well i'm sorry, but i disagree with this. strange with myself and husband having 2 grandkids that do get the free medical and dental through the doctors in redwood valley. i never see white pride on windows of cars going through town, and would surely never put that on my car. it just seems that we have to bow down so much anymore or the race card is thrown out there constantly. i myself am pretty sick of it. not because this woman is native american but because i dispise meth and anything that goes along with it, i hope and pray she gets dealt with to the fullest extent of th law!

Don't think so. Nazis used it during WWII and it was here way before pot industry.
And japan was using meth as a nation;the kamakazie pilots administered methamphetamine before attacks. And I think that's probably the best analogy for meth-kamakazie.

No doubt a clear line to the illegal production of pot by the cartel up in the hills. MJ production and sales of the crop are the major revenue source to organized crime and thus helps build there sales of meth. Legalize, tax and regulate MJ production and sales. Add it to are lisit of legal crops. Say good bye to orgainized crime and all thoses assocated with it.

Nancy will no longer be dealing meth in our little town but some other creep will replace her unless we stand up as a community and demand improvement.

I know plenty of people who do not cook meth and who grow MJ (for medicinal purposes). I also knew people who cooked meth and didnt want anything to do with MJ.

I am a recovered addict. I preferred smoking MJ to doing crank; though whatever I could get I would do. I have been clean now for over 11 years but many of my former friends are still doing their thing.
