LOL no, as a member of the Board of Directors for HSIMC I can assure you we get no funding from any Government agency... we pay our own spay and neutering expenses. In addition we're a no kill shelter, and some of our animals will be there for life, so we have a twofold mission- to be as active as possible in pet adoptions to place as many animals as we can and also provide proper care and human interaction with the animals in our facility who have little chance at adoption. Money vs. animal is never an issue.

Our adoption fees barely cover the spay, neutering and care expenses of our charges so we support our efforts through events like our Tri Tip dinner and quarter auction, held recently at the fairgrounds. We also have a spaghetti feed annually at Barra Vineyards in the Spring, and many other pet adoptions and fundraisers throughout the year.

Currently we are taking orders for Christmas wreathes and other Christmas themed arrangements- stop by the Humane Society at 9700 Uva Drive in Redwood Valley and check us out, our hours at HSIMC are Sat-Sun from 11 to 3 and Sat-Sun from 1-5, closed Monday and Tuesday.

We could also use volunteers for dog walking and to help out at events. There are so many good people who help out it's a very positive experience, and has convinced me Mendo people are generally a kind and generous lot.
