I posted this yeterday on the Coffeyville forum, but I want it put up here too.. My own daughter is at Ft. Hood and this happened just few doors down from where she works. She was home with a sick baby though. Her husband was at the range.

Thursday was very hard for me...900 miles from home even farther from my soldier.. No way to turn to others for comfort... The fear and pain knowing it could have been one of my soldiers. Thinking of 43 other families. 13 of which are going to get the worst news possible.. Something they have feared since their soldiers joined.. But, nobody expected it to happen here in our own country. On our own Ft. Hood. I prayed last night for those families, at the same time thanking God my soldiers were safe. My heart still breaks thinking of their loss. I have no answers, only questions. But, they will remain un-asked. I know there are no answers..
So please remember that even though they are home.. Some still work to harm them.

Please pray and never forget what they do for us....

I'm standing in the ranks right beside you, Hi lee...My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families with the hope that this nation can come together on the eve of Veterans Day and agree to give our troops the support they need to see this thing through to a lasting peace. Whether you support our nations efforts to fight terrorism in the Middle East or not; at the very least, we as a country should give our troops all the support they need, on and off the battlefield...in or out of uniform...

Remember, they serve so you don't have to.'nuf said...

(BTW, Hi lee, thanks for bringing this post to the Indy forum)

id say its about time our great and wonderful prez. with "husain" in his name that called THEM all terrerests brings them back sense all they really want is to come home anyway and the wars really been done for over 3 years as it is. obama sucks.
Either I got up to early or my coffee is too weak, but this makes no sense to me. Remember, the previous president who caused all this has "Walker" as his middle name and we all know what that means. Not a darn thing. God Bless America, God Bless our Troops, and God Bless our President.

To "guess whos back" and "Not a basher":

Veterans Day is not about who is president or what their middle name is, or even whether or not we are at war or not.

To the rest of the crowd:

Its also not about the Veterans Day Sale on at Blah-de-blah World. Neither is it about having a long-weekend-extra-day-off for some.

It is a day set aside to remember your fellow citizens that took time out of their lives to help make your lives better and safer. Over the past 234 years our service men and women have done a remarkable job at keeping the free in the word freedom.

Give some thought to the veterans that you know personally and take the time to thank them for their service to our great country. Although they may not have served in a war, and it may have been many years ago, and they may not want to admit it, even to themselves; they will, down deep inside, appreciate the recognition that you have given them.

It takes a special person to serve the long hours, with low pay, and away from friends and family often in places that are too hot or too cold...sometimes hostile.

Take just a minute...then go about your day and enjoy the freedom that our country's veterans have provided. Now about that Veterans Day Sale at Blah-de-blah's,...I hear there's great bargains to be had on.....

Please take a minute...remember, freedom isn't free...

from a veteran i can say "thank you". but not for me, but for brothers in arms who have lost their lives in this war and past wars. remember them and the greatest sacrifice which they gave. do not feel sad, but feel proud of them. for they were american soldiers. they are our hereos. so yes, take a minute or two and think of our fallen.

There are a lot of people who need to rethink what their definition of "Veterans Day" is. It is a day to honor all of those Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen who have served, or are serving, in our Armed Forces. Most of all to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our wonderful country. It is not a matter of who was or is our President, no one person has ever made the correct choice at everything he or she has done in their lives. Lay off the Prez bashing and start thanking our Vets!~Remember you dont have to support the war, but at least support the troops!~

While I agree with your thinking "your pennies worth"; this retired Coast Guardsman feels left out of your post. It probably was not your intention to do that; many people don't think of the Coast Guard when they think military because we are not in the Department of Defense. We are now serving in the Department of Homeland Security. The Coast Guard is the smallest of the five Armed Services with only 42,000 active duty and 7,500 reservists. The Coast Guard provides many non military services to the public including search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, environmental protection, port security, aids-to-navigation and vessel traffic services in our port cities; but has served in every war since 1790 including the War of 1812, the Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, The Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and Iraq. We draw the same pay and allowances as our sister services and have the same rank structure as the Navy. Although there aren't as many Coast Guard veterans as the other services, we are just as proud to have served our country.

Thank you for your kind comments on Veterans Day, I wish everyone felt as you do.

You are correct Chief, I left out my brothers and sisters of the Coast Guard unintentionally...my apologies! Thank you to ALL vets of the Armed Forces! You are remembered!
