I did hear a few days ago that the director (Jiffie) had been fired. Didn't know if that was true. Did they have a new one after her? How many kids were going there? Surely they had to give them notice, didn't they?

i think if there is concern for the safety of the children by the state, childcare facilities are closed immediately.
im not saying thats what happened there, but maybe there was no choice to close or stay open, maybe they were forced to close? |

The daycare was closed due to two issues with the State Fire Marshall's Office. Because the issues could pose a safety threat to the children, they had to shut down. They will be re-opening after these issues are dealt with.
The first issue is: the State doesn't consider the daycare to be located on the first floor of the ICO building because you have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the daycare. The daycare has applied to the KSFMO for a waiver, as it *is* located on the first floor. The surveyor commented that she didn't know how this had escaped the notice of previous surveyors, but the fact remains - there has to be a waiver, as daycare centers have to meet the same standards that hospitals, nursing homes and educational facilities have to meet. The second issue is: a couple of the classrooms do not have two exits from the rooms, which are needed in case of evacuation due to fire or tornado. There will have to be minor construction done to rectify this situation and the architect is working on the blueprint, as we "type". Yes, Jiffie was fired and, yes, she was replaced. The surveyors were very happy in the choice of her replacement, having worked with the replacement in other centers. But, Jiffie's firing had nothing to do with the closing of the center. Hope this answers your queries! |

I received copies of all incidents and inspections from KDHE regarding IDCC, and I am NOT HAPPY. It was like a book, there were so many pages of violations, repeat violations, complaints, etc.
I heard a rumor that Jiffie is going to try to open another daycare, and I hope it's not true. Just another money-hungry piece of sh*t who doesn't give a damn about the kids as long as she's getting her paycheck without having to do any real work. Or even show up, for that matter. She, along with others who worked there and turned their backs to the kids' safety, will get theirs someday. |

What were some of the violations? Were they all when Jiffie was in charge?
|
||||
Yes I heard the old director was fired,new one in place, there was no notice to any parents. My friend went to pick up her child one day last week and there was several kids and only one worker,.workers 3 walked out. Now the have a new director but a whole list of things that have to be straightened out before reopening is allowed by state. |

According to the inspection reports, yes, Jiffie was the director when all of the violations were noted. Read the story on the front page of today's Reporter; that sheds even MORE light on what went on. Some of the stuff mentioned in that story weren't even in the reports I received, which dated back to 6 months ago. And, although the shut-down was deemed an "emergency," there's documentation that as of Sept 23 the state had already decided it was necessary to suspend their license. So that tells me that while they couldn't give the parents one day of notice, they themselves actually had a month's notice that they would have to shut their doors.
The list of violations is loooong. Not including the most recent that required the emergency shut down, they range from not having infant bottles marked to giving medication without parental consent, transporting kids without proper restraints, leaving infants unattended, bug problems, cleaning chemicals in reach of children, broken and rusted playground equipment, unsecured gate that opens onto 10th street from playground area, director not being onsite EVER, the list goes on and on. Seriously, contact the health department, they will mail you copies of everything for free. |

In the Independence Sunday paper it stated that
there was no insurance in place since last Feb. when it was not renewed. This is necessary to have if they want to stay in business. I am sure glad my kids are all grown and I don't have to worry about day care. |
||||
|
Speedy, you are lucky, and so is everyone else who doesn't have to worry about finding quality child care. It's nothing but a leap of faith: you leave your kids with virtual strangers and expect to get them back in one piece; unscarred physically, emotionally, and mentally. I don't take my kids to a babysitter/daycare because I don't want to be with them, it's only because I have to, and it sure would be nice for someone out there to understand that and care for them the way I would if I was home with them. Sigh. It's all so scary and frustrating.

I want all of you that are considering taking your child or children to the Independence Day Care after it reopens to understand that my daughter is the new director and has always put the children first. She is an excellent teacher and director and worked very hard to get the education needed to do this job. And if you read any of the remarks you would have read that the state is happy with the choice of the new director, my daughter. It takes a special person to take care of your children and I think she is the best to do the job for you, and if she thinks your child is not being cared for properly she is the first to step up and take care of it. I don't always agree with her as my daughter but she is good at her job. And she cares.

awesome thank you so much. I was going to go up to daycare today when i went to lunch with her.. saves me a trip
|

I'd like to know who your daughter is, as I'm the one that's done payroll for the daycare since March 2009. If a time card was turned into me, a check was cut. Now, after Jiffie was fired, the new director found three payroll checks that were never mailed and I mailed those last Monday or Tuesday. |

Lord knows you trip enough! |

I don't want to post this here so where can I email you here name? She worked there three days before Ms. Jiffie asked her to come back in three weeks. Guess what...Doors closed. She worked in infant room from 5:15 till school at 9 on two days and 8 on the other.
