Jack Skeen's court reporter sexting a juror

Just read an opinion from the 12th Court of appeals - Prentiss Hawkins v. State - seems Jack Skeen's court reporter was caught sexting a juror during this case. I don't recall seeing this in the news. Did I just miss it or was it suppressed because it was Skeen's court reporter. Anyone else, something like this would have been big news.

I can't help but wonder what else is going on in that courthouse. Why did Skeen's court reporter think it was okay to communicate with a juror? Maybe because he has done so in the past for Skeen or the DA's office? I don't know, just speculating. Anyone know if this guy is still Skeen's court reporter? I think this guy also testified in favor of Skeen in that hearing regarding Skeen's recusal from the Mineola case. It was Buck Files, Dean Cagle, and this guy testifying as to what a good and unbiased judge Skeen is. What a sorry lot - not a single one of them with an ounce of credibility, yet the judge from Longview bought it - go figure.

In Cherokee County, the district judge can marry the defenses witnesses, then refuse to recuse themselves.
Heck, in Cherokee County the district attorney wines and dines the entire jury during trials.
They stack their own kinfolk on civil trials to bilk companies.
None of this new.

Notice the 12th Court of Appeals always puts the onus on the appellant to correctly identify the salient points, and when then courts' corruption is exposed, the Tyler Appeals court says "well, you should it brought it up before the trial, overruled... even though the court of appeals didn't have anything to do with case until AFTERWARDS."
The justices in Tyler are homegrown good ol' boys who whitewash the corrupt activity of their hometowns.

I think you are probably right about the 12th Court of Appeals, Reader. I've noticed a pattern: Skeen has contracts with a few attorneys to represent indigent defendants in his court. I've noticed that these attorneys get their clients to make an open plea, allowing the judge to set the sentence. This is a crazy thing to do in Skeen's court because you know he'll hit them hard. It amounts to malpractice on the attorney's part. I bet that these attorneys are told that they must do this or their contracts won't be renewed. You'd think the justices on the 12th would have also noticed this since they see the appeals these defendants try to file. Of course the appeal is always dismissed without consideration because the attorney filed a brief saying there are no grounds for appeal. Sometimes it seems like the people running the system are as bad, or worse, than many of those being sent to prison by the system.

FYI - Judge Skeen immediately fired the court reporter for his actions. He obviously thought it was inappropriate so he didn't hesitate to make sure the situation was promptly addressed.

Well now, that doesn't hardly seem fair, for Skeen to fire the guy when Skeen is guilty of much more egregious conduct himself. Let's see, planning strategy with the DA's office in the middle of a trial, displaying open, obvvious, and blatant bias in favor of the DA's office, including, as teh 14th Court of Appeals noted, making up rules of evidence to help the proseuction win and refusing to allow the defense to present its case. Then there was his sleazy behavior os a DA: withholding evidence, lying the appellate courts, using evidence he knew to be false, indicting people who had committed no crime as a favor to a local TV station. It just seems a little hypocritical to me that he fired this guy while he, himself, remains on the job. Does it seem that way to anyone else?

And, that still doesn't answer my question about why this didn't make the news. That rag, the Tyler Paper, seems to be struggling to find things to report and they seem to report on much more trivial stuff. Why didn't they report this little item? Could it be that they only print what Skeen tells them to?

Oh, and I almost forgot, his intentional exclusion of jurors based on race. I think Skeen's perception of things that are "appropriate" is a little warped. But, then again he is more than a little warped.
