I just visited the beautiful Tybee Island and fell in love with the atmosphere and the beach itself. I do have one question, why was the beach covered with so much brush? During high tide you couldn't even lay close the the water's edge because your chair would catch the brush washing up. I never had seen that in any of the photos fom Tybee so I was just wondering if there was some specific reason for it.

There have been a lot of storms and high tides this spring, so the dead marsh grass was pushed out to the ocean side, and washed up on the beach. It's called "wrack" and birds eat the bugs and small crabs that hide in it. The city of tybee staff has been raking it back into the dunes, which helps the dunes retain sand and get bigger. Hope you enjoyed your visit!
