One can appreciate the trustee's efforts but what is truly happening is the inability of people to get out from behind their desks and meet people face to face. Professor Brooks should have a chat with his counterparts at the University's Department of Communications to see how they feel about this! Computer communication is a poor excuse for the actual human contact. We just find ourselves hunkered down behind a screen and then what? How do we gauge people's feelings by reading the cold word?
No - Professor Brooks perhaps, too, needs to get out of the University setting and see how the coldness of the computer is affecting our human society!

This may be true but how realistic is it for him to be able to inform 500 people twice a week personally? It's not. Even if everyone associated with Northfield Township were to get out, they still would never get face to face with the 500. While I agree with you that he still needs to be out meeting the people, at least making sure the residents are informed in some way is a positive step.

I noticed that there was concern about "Hiding behind a desk." I assure you that there is MUCH more to communcicating via a computer. This is why I have logged almost 1,700 PERSONAL contacts and meetings during the past two years!
Thank you,
Paul G. Buescher

Paul Buescher is an uneducated penniless pauper that needs constant reassurance he is in the limelight.
